After “Hard Fate” and “Under the Canopy of Love,” “The Seventh Day,” is Niki’s third collaboration with rumored boyfriend Kevin Cheng. This series has finished filming last February, but will only start broadcasting next Monday. It feels a little late. Niki explained, “It’s only been a year. It hasn’t been too long. Post production takes time too. It’s pretty normal. Perhaps, everyone is just anticipating it too much. I’m actually very satisfied with this series. I hope it will bring some good results. Regarding the rumor that her rumors with Kevin has upset a female executive at TVB, Niki sighed and said, “I’ve never heard of this. It’s just a rumor so I won’t comment.”
Has a tacit understanding with the “TV King”
This is the third time that she worked with TVB’s “TV King.” Regarding being reported that they “hei ga ching jan” (acting is fake, but feelings are real). Niki didn’t confirm nor deny and only smiled and said, “Let’s leave some space for the viewers to imagine. We are professional in portraying the characters. I want the viewers to enjoy the series and be happy watching it.” However, she admitted that this time she and Kevin have an even greater tacit understanding (mak kai). “Because we are are more and more familiar with each other, the characters we play will advance to another level. Because we have a tacit understanding and have matured we aren’t afraid or feel awkward with one another. Not only in kissing scenes, but in other challenging ones, we can privately share our ideas and solve the problem. This will make the characters have a closer and more intimate interaction.”
Niki has filmed four series with TVB. She said “The Seventh Day” is her most unforgettable one. Aside from it being a tragedy, the character’s complexity made it a challenge. She was also able to work alongside a dog and had the opportunity to go to Japan. It is one of her most unforgettable memories. However, It’s been a year and there hasn’t been any news of Niki filming another series. There were rumors that she refused to film “The Gentle Crackdown II” so Yumiko had to take over. Niki said, “This all comes down to my record company and management. Filming a series requires spending 3-4 months of time. It doesn’t mean if you want to film a series you get to film a series. In this coming year, I have to get ready to release a new album, film some ads and movies. I think it will be a little later before I can film a series. If the timing is right I will definitely film. I really like filming TVB series.”
Releasing a new album in March
Besides not filming a series for a year, Niki’s music fans have also waited a year. Earlier, Niki’s song “Firefly” was plugged in the radio stations for some time. Her new EP will have to wait till March to be released. Niki said, “There were some changes in my record company (Lam San San left). It did have an impact. Last year I devoted a lot of my time filming a series and writing a book, but I have also spent a lot of time preparing for this new album. This time for each song I worked with different people. For example, Kahil Fong, Patrick Tang, etc. They are around my age. Their music would be compatible for me. Every song has a different producer and different sparks.” For each song, Niki would work with different people, but the majority of Niki’s series cannot depart from Kevin Cheng.
