The actor-director dismissed wedding rumours and remained secretive about his alleged relationship with Shu Qi

'It's not true. I'm not married yet,' emphasised Stephen Fung at a promotional event on Monday.

The Hong Kong actor-director became the centre of attention at the event as it was his first public appearance, following rave speculations on his alleged relationship with longtime friend, Taiwanese screen siren Shu Qi recently.

The intimate friendship between the pair immediately raised eyebrows after they have been sighted travelling together on many occasions and caught'flirting' with each other via their microblog updates. The tabloids also reported the rumoured lovebirds had registered their marriage in the United States earlier this month.

Stephen dismissed all wedding claims, but remained tight-lipped when asked if he is dating Shu Qi currently.

The 39-year-old commented, 'I prefer to keep my personal life low-key. I'll not announce to the public even when I get married in future.'

Meanwhile, Stephen was believed to have indirectly admitted his relationship with the actress after he hinted that both of them have been 'meeting up often for work'.

'It's absolutely normal for good friends to do so [meet up],' he added.

He was unfazed about Hong Kong artiste, Stephen Chow's public love confession to Shu Qi, and felt it was just a 'promotional tactic for his new movie'.

Life should not be lived for another person, but for herself, says Shu Qi.

Breaking the silence about her break up with Leon Lai, the Taiwanese actress said: "We have to look on the bright side. I am not a woman who falls into the abyss of love. Although it isn't easy to recover from a breakup, I choose to be positive."

The 33-year-old told Apple Daily that her relationship with the Hong Kong Heavenly King had been a happy and close one.

The pair first met on the set of the movie, "City of Glass" - when Shu Qi was 22 - and started dating not long after.

However, their relationship sparked furore from Leon's fans as they felt that Shu Qi, an ex-pornography actress, was not good enough for him.

Apart from his fans' backlash, Shu Qi also had to endure rumours of Leon's scandals with other actresses.

The pair finally broke up in 2004, when Shu Qi turned 29.

Not long after, Leon started going out with model Gaile Lok.

When asked if she hated Leon for robbing her of her prime, she said: "Why must there be hate? I won't hate him because it was fate that brought us together, and also fate that separated us. Maybe a break up was better for the both of us."

Although the star still believes in love, marrige is still far from her mind.

She said: "I haven't thought about marriage yet. Anyway, I've deleted Leon's memories from my mind."

Nonetheless, Shu Qi enjoys the feeling of being in a relationship.

"In a relationship, I feel that I tend to love the other party more because I simply can't be together with someone whom I don't love a lot," she says.

Of the characteristics she's looking for in her ideal partner, she says: "Partners should move forward together - one shouldn't be walking ahead while the other is left behind.

"What I'm looking for is someone that I can connect with."

Shu Qi, in Taipei at the opening ceremony of the first cross-straits film festival yesterday, and clad in a simple sundress, found herself nonetheless the center of attention.

In the artistic romantic comedy, If You Are the One, also the opening film of the festival, Shu plays a married air stewardess who has an extra-marital affair. In reality, she says that it is good to stay true to one's feelings.

Chinese film star Shu Qi will have a say in deciding this year's winner of the world's biggest film festival.

The Taiwan-born actress is part of the eight-member jury panel that was announced on Thursday by the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival.

French actress Isabelle Huppert, a two-time best actress award winner at Cannes, will lead the panel. Other jury members include Italian actress, director and screenwriter Asia Argento; Nuri Bilge Ceylan, a Turkish director, screenwriter and actor; Lee Chang-dong, a director from South Korea; American director James Gray; British writer Hanif Kureishi; and Robin Wright Penn, an American actress.

The jury will decide the winner for the coveted Golden Palm, the top prize of the Cannes festival.

This will not be Shu Qi's first appearance in Cannes. She was there in 2005, when her film "Three Times", directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien, was nominated for that year's Golden Palm.

Besides Shu Qi, actress Zhang Ziyi is another Chinese judge at this year's festival. Zhang is among the five-member jury that will select the winner of the award for best short film.

The festival runs May 13-24.

Actress Shu Qi cuts fee by 30%

THE Hong Kong entertainment industry is starting to feel the effects of the financial crunch.

Faced by fewer opportunities, some artistes have started to lower their wage demands.

Xinhua reported that sultry actress Shu Qi (left) has dropped her asking price by 30 per cent.

The 32-year-old attended an event for Dom Perignon champagne in Hong Kong last week.

When asked if she's affected by the economic crisis, she claimed that her investments had shrunk by half in value, but she's optimistic that she would be able to recoup slowly.

She said: 'The outlook is looking gloomy for the Hong Kong film industry. I have cut my wage demands by 30 per cent. Since the crisis hit, I've not taken any new roles.'

When a reporter asked if she thinks she's being noble by taking the lead, she replied: 'I should do it, since I'm part of the movie industry.'

Looking elegant in a green, backless Versace dress and Chaumet jewellery worth about 400,000 yuan ($88,000), Shu Qi said her next assignment is to do a voice-over for the new film of Chinese director Feng Xiaogang, of The Banquet fame.

Several Hong Kong artistes are also following suit.

Actress-singer Miriam Yeung told Xinhua that she agrees with Shu Qi's call. Said Miriam: 'The film industry is in the doldrums now and if the film company has certain budget constraints, I'm willing to compromise.'

Actress Josie Ho didn't fare any better. She claimed that for her last job, all she got was a hongbao with a nominal fee.

Josie, who is the daughter of casino magnate Stanley Ho, said she had started some projects with her own film company, but has had to cut down on her budget even before the projects got into full swing.

Mr Chen Huanzong, a senior official of Media Asia Group which Shu Qi belongs to, commended her.

He said: 'This will help the HK film industry greatly.'

However, Jet Tone Productions, which has Tony Leung and Carina Lau in its stable, said they have no plans to reduce their stars' pay packet yet.

Earlier Andy Lau and Shu Qi were in Macao for location shooting for the finale scene of Looking For A Star at Coloane's Dai Pai Dong, the scene is a happy ending for lovers Andy and Shu Qi as Andy took out the 6 carat diamond ring sponsored by Cartier to propose to Shu Qi.

Due to the hefty price tag of the ring, the crew member initially planned to give them the ring during the actual shooting, but both of them wanted to have the ring during rehearsal in order to get the feeling, the crew members had to obey their request.

Unexpectedly when the ring was passed to Andy and Shu Qi, they fight each other for the ring, Andy even tried to wear the ring on his thumb where the crew members burst into laughter, it anger director Andrew Lau as he shouted out: "When the ring goes missing, I will be using your fees to pay back to the sponsor."

Shu Qi immediately stopped playing and tell Andy: "Your fees is more than the cost of the ring, you can play with it because you can afford it, I could not afford." Andy rebuked: "You can afford it, don't lie. This ring is for female, does not suit me." Instead of fighting for the ring, they passed the ring to one another.

The shooting attracted more than 100 onlookers, even the dogs of the Dai Pai Dong came to join in the crowds as they would walked past the camera occasionally which is giving the crew members headaches, thus the director decided to postpone the shooting till midnight before resuming filming.

In addition, Denise Ho's parents also went to visit her in Macao. Filial Denise also seize the chance to tour her parents around Macao, she also brought them to the filming site and joined in the celebration party.

Andy sing praise of Denise being filial and a good actress which delights her parents.
