Singers Singing at 10 th Anniversary for Leslie Cheung

courtesy of on.cc

Next Monday, April 1, will be the 10th anniversary of Gor Gor Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's passing. His former manager Chan Suk Fun will hold two different format memorial concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum to reminisce Gor Gor's glory with fans and viewers; on Sunday the 31st many of Gor Gor's friends will participate and perform in the MISS YOU MUCH LESLIE concert. Because Gor Gor had many real friends in the business, everyone hoped to be able to do their part on this day. They included "Song God" Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Vivian Chow Wai Man, Kelly Chen Wai Lam and Joey Yung Cho Yi, the Grasshoppers and Julian Cheung Chi Lam. They recently have already begun to rehearse for the concert in order to make this a night to remember, to provide a perfect performance for Gor Gor's friends and fans and to leave a beautiful memory.

Although the singers were busy they still took time to rehearse. This time the concert director Chan Suk Fun also attended; she not only provided suggestions for the performance but also wanted to personally thank the guests for their support for this memorial concert.

Last week during rehearsal, Cheung Hok Yau and the crew held a surprise birthday part for Mrs. Chan. He and the crew schemed and suddenly brought a cake and flowers to Mrs. Chan as they sang the birthday song. Actually March 22nd was Mrs. Chan's birthday. Hok Yau was very attentive and even presented a surprise. Mrs. Chan said that originally in order to prepare for this concert and with her friend Teacher Hui Pui's passing she planned to quietly spend this birthday, but she was surprised and touched to receive everyone's well wishes.

At the same time Mrs. Chan also thanked everyone for their support of the MISS YOU MUCH LESLIE concert. That night it will be broadcast globally for Gor fans around the world to remember Gor Gor together.

Last night, Joey Yung held her Number 6 World Tour Concert Genting Highlands, Malaysia. She appeared in 6 different looks - sexy, glamorous, wild and cute. When fans were singing along with her, Joey suddenly shouted to stop the music and scolded angrily at the security personnel, "Don't push them!" She appeared very angry because she saw the security violently pushing the fans, so she had no other choice, but to help stand up for her fans.

After Joey finished performing one song, she asked her fans: "Are you guys hurt? I hope everyone just comes here to listen to music happily. There should absolutely not be any use of fists, you can use your eyes to glare at them!"

Asian Artistes Gather to Raise $18 Million for Japan

Source: Mingpao
Translated by: sparkles_n15 @ asianfanatics.net

Organized by the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild, over 300 singers and artistes took part in the 'Love Without Borders' candlelight event last night in Victoria Park. The three-hour concert ran from 7:00-10:00 p.m. and was broadcasted live. Approximately 10,000 people came to show their support, with more people showing up as the night wore on. Jackie Chan personally donated $3 million towards the cause. By the end of the night, they raised over $18 million, which will be donated to the Salvation Army to help with the relief efforts in Japan. The Japanese Consulate-General in Hong Kong went on stage to thank the generosity and support of all the Hong Kong citizens. He promises to relay their messages of hope back to everyone in Japan.

The fundraiser gathered stars from all over the world, including Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Indonesia. However, singers from China were noticeably absent. Artistes from Japan who specially flew to Hong Kong for the event included renowned Enka singer Sen Masao, Nakamura Masatoshi, Judy Ongg, and members of AKB48. Everyone thanked the citizens of Hong Kong for their support. Sen Masao sang his classic song 'Kitaguni no Haru' along with Joey Yung and Shirley Kwan. The song was sung in Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese. Sen Masao said, "Everyone has gathered here today for this cause. I am so grateful for all the warmth we've received." He also said 'thank you' in Cantonese. Judy Ongg, who resides in Japan, performed the themesong from the Japanese series 'Oshin' with Miriam Yeung and Mag Lam. On stage she said, "Japan is my adopted country. It is suffering so much right now. However, with so many Hong Kong friends showing their support for this fundraiser, I'm sure these sentiments will reach everyone in Japan. Japan will surely rise from the ashes and rebuild itself again."

Nakamura Masatoshi says that Japan is in the midst of a large crisis. He hopes that everyone can lend their support. He also revealed that his younger cousin passed away when his car got swept by the tsunami. There are still 5,000 people unaccounted for in his hometown, which is half of its population. However, he believes Japan has the power to overcome this crisis. He is very thankful for the help everyone in Hong Kong has given. He also expresses that he's worried about the radiation in Tokyo. There has been a lot of discrepancies with the government reports, so the news is not very reliable. Right now Tokyo is also facing a water deficit. He is prepared to turn his efforts to support Tokyo as well. That night Nakamura performed the song 'Oretachi no Tabi' alongside Aaron Kwok.

Agnes Chan, who has a Japanese husband and resides in Japan, said that she was in tears when she lost contact with two of her sons during the earthquake. She hopes that everyone will cherish their lives and not take anything for granted. She also believes that there is hope in life and sang the song 'Soko ni wa Shiawase ga Mou Umareteiru Kara' for everyone in Japan.

Many Korean artistes also attended the event. Kwon Sang Woo, Wonder Girls and Park Jin-young all showed their support for Japan. Kwon Sang Woo said that it's a rare opportunity for so many artistes in Asia to gather together for a fundraiser. While he still feels the pain and sadness from the destruction in Japan, he believes that everyone's efforts will help the Japanese face the challenges ahead. As for the Wonder Girls and Park Jin-young, they sang the song from the 'I Love Asia' concert, which was written for the Sichuan Earthquake in 2008.

Yesterday TVB broadcasted clips of singers from the Big 4 Companies. However, the only TVB artistes that took part were Raymond Lam, Myolie Wu, Bosco Wong, Mag Lam and Joyce Cheng, which was little in comparison.

Artistes from China did not take part in the event. Eric Tsang was asked whether this was due to the tense relations between China and Japan? He said, "We contacted China artistes. They indicated the possibility of holding their own fundraising event. That was why we didn't invite them. This time the Hong Kong fundraiser mainly featured artistes from around Asia."

Translator note: Song titles were translated using the Japanese names. The article does not indicate whether the songs were sung in Chinese or Japanese.

The heroic acts of the disaster relief volunteer (Wong Fok Wing) in saving others lives was named "Hong Kong Hero" by Gigi Leung on her microblog.

Thousands of Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwanese artists expressed on their microblogs of the united spirit, no separation of power, constantly calling for donations, disaster relief activities and charities. Cholam who imitated Ah Sa said "Twins are very open minded, didn't get mad at me."

The concert started at 8:40pm, Ah Sa and Ah Gill ascended on stage wearing silver costume. They looked at the audience and said "How are you, long time no see!" Joey Yung wants oxygen tank to preserve her voice

Joey Yung, Raymond Lam, Denise Ho and Kate Tsui attended last night. Joey won 4 awards making her the big winner of the night, she said with a hoarse voice: "Maybe because the air in Hong Kong isn't good. Before when I was in Australia I was fine, really have to carrry and oxygen tank before I go out!"

Joey reveals that good friend Eason Chan introduced her to "Human-God Technique", but actually Joey already has a good idea, she said: "I went to see my doctor, took steroids and then eat pizza. My current plan is to go back to Mainland for acupuncture at the end of this month, better than human-god technique." Joey expressed that she will introduce the doctor to Eason, asked why she doesn't invite the doctor to Hong Kong? She said: "I tried before, but the doctor is not young, he doesn't want to move around too much. Last time, his daughter accompanied him in coming to HK, but he ate something wrong and had to go to the hospital. I felt pretty sorry."

Raymond Lam won 3 awards becoming the winner among the male singers. Without the Big 4 record company singers greatly reduced the competition. Raymond winning the "Highest Record Sales for Male Singer" award, is he worried that that him winning the award this time is not convincing enough? He said: "Either way, there will be comment, just do my best. I also hope for more singers to participate in the award ceremony. (Greater chance in winning?) It's a big family in the entertainment circle, there's a good relationship between the singers, one less chance of seeing each other, I feel that it's a pity."

Raymond Lam & Joey Yung IFPI's Best Selling Singers

Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net/forums/

Raymond Lam & Joey Yung IFPI's Best Selling Singers

Oriental Daily received news that this year's "IFPI's Best Selling Male and Female Singer" went to Raymond Lam and Joey Yung respectively. Both of them also won "Top Ten Best Selling Singer" along with Janice Vidal, G.E.M, Denise Ho, Ivana Wong, Wong Cho Lam, Stephanie Cheng, Charlene Choi and etc. As for "Top Selling Cantonese Album" went to Janice Vidal. Everyone is most surprised about Miriam Yeung not making into the Top Ten.

"The Most Popular Male and Female Newcomer" went to Bosco Wong, Aarif Lee, Jonathan Wong and Kate Tsui.

As HKRIA is not part of the Hong Kong District member, so the singers under Universal, Warner, Sony Music and EMI album sales were not counted. Eason Chan, Kay Tse, Hins Cheung, Khalil Fong and many more all got no awards. Coincidentally, the IFPI award ceremony is broadcast by TVB, so they don't have to worry about spending time cutting the sections that contain the singers from the Big 4. As for Leo Ku who just recently switched over to a new company, his old record company Gold Label did not help him count the number of album sales. His first album after entering EEG released at the end of the year where the number of sales were not counted in time, so like the Big 4 singers, he received no award.

(a music producer)" Ah Sa just expressed that every person makes their own decisions.

Dressed as a pirate for the new movie, Joey expressed that she plays a female mountain robber and has many action scenes. She said: "When it comes to action, I am definitely not as good as Kara Hui, but I do hope to ask her for some advice, make her my mentor!"

Won't eat too much to avoid having to go poo in the forest
Ah Sa expressed that she's been working on this movie over the new year. For some scenes, they were shooting in the forest where she did not dare to eat too much. She said: "I didn't dare to eat too much, I'm afraid I'll have to go poo! Because they said that if we have to go for 'big business', we have to use plastic bags, that is very troublesome, so now I'm being careful not to eat anything wrong. I'll just do my business when I get home in the morning."

Towards this, Joey agreed, she expressed that since she entered the industry, she has always waited until she gets home to do her "big business". She laughed and said that she can control it very naturally.

Joey Yung too busy visiting doctor, no time to think about awards

Wednesday November 11, 2009 Hong Kong
Source: Mingpao, Oriental Daily
Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net/forums/

Yesterday Joey Yung attended CRHK's event. Does Joey has confidence to win the "Gold Female Singer Award" this year? She expressed that she has not paid attention to that because she's been busy visiting the doctor instead. Joey expressed that because of the recent knee and waist pains, she had to go get X-rays done. The doctor said that her knee and waist areas are undergoing degradation, Joey believes that this is due to the fact taht she's often wearing high heels. If she does not properly treat it, the doctor said that it is possible she will have sit in a wheelchair. Currently she is just relying on taking anti-inflammatory medicines and pain killers. Also, she can only walk and swim now, she cannot do running.

Joey said that recently when she walks down a slope, her feet and back would hurt and it was only when she visited the doctor that she discovered this illness. Is it because she was busy rehearsing for her concert that caused this? Joey said it is possible. She said: "Before I really didn't care about my health, thinking that I'm a superwoman, but once I go out, it turns out I'm just an ordinary person. I cannot necessarily handle anything, in the future I will take better care of my health." Will she not wear high heels anymore? She said: "No way! The beauty of it needs to be passed on." Yesterday Joey still wore 3-inch heels to the event. This year which female singer does Joey support to get an award? She said: "Joey Yung and Ah Sa (Charlene Choi)." How about good friend Denise Ho? She said that Denise is good too. Yesterday why was Denise absent from the event? She said: "Maybe she doesn't have time!" Do you support Denise? Joey said again that she's pretty good. How about Kay Tse? She said: "Not bad too." Everyone is pretty good, then who is the best? Joey praised herself: "The best is Joey Yung." Joey was asked about her confidence towards the awards, she frankly said: "If there is no self-confidence, how will other people have confidence for you?"

Ah Sa's turn this year to wear high heels
This year Joey became "shorter", but it's Ah Sa's turn to wear 6 or 7 inch heels. Asked if she's worried that she'll be like Joey? Ah Sa said: "I know about it too. But I told Joey that it is a sacrifice to success. I am not saying that wearing heels is the key to success, but if you want to be pretty there is consequences."

Chik Chak's Top 3 for 10 years straight
This year the Joey songs played had excellent performance, for the female singers, she is named "Chik Chak's Well-Known Top Three". If she wins Gold Female Singer this year, it will be her third consecutive one, matching with Sandy Lam's record. She is also the first female singer whose been on the top three for 10 years straight, truly amazing.

HK Artistes 88 Fund Raising Campaign" strict dress code; Eric Tsang pardons Justin Lo's hat

Sunday August 16, 2009 Hong Kong
Source: Oriental Daily
Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net/forums/

Southern Taiwan experienced serious damages and flooding from the recent typhoon. Tonight Hong Kong Artists gather for the disaster relief. Last night, more than a hundred artists recorded a theme song for the Disaster Relief for promotional purposes. In order to respect the event, the organizer Eric Tsang created a strict dress code for the artists. Justin Lo put the dress code in the "test", but the kind-hearted Eric generously let him go for that.

"Artistes 88 Fund Raising Campaign" (8.8水災關愛行動) is held tonight (Monday 8/17/09). The other night nearly 150 local HK artists prepared for this event, as they arrived together in TVB City to record for the campaign's theme song "Rippling Thousand Mile Heart" (滔滔千里心). Artists who attended includes: Alan Tam, Eric Tsang, Chilam Cheung, Yumiko Cheng, and a bunch of TVB/ATV artists. Even Joey Yung who just finished with the "Summer Popl Live in HK" concert last night came on time at 12pm to record the song.

However, none of the Gold Label artistes came! Gold Label's spokesperson explained that because TVB notified them too late, the singers had to preform "Summer" and was unable to prepare in time. But tonight, they sent out 8 artistes to perform including Justin Lo. As the organizers prohibits artistes to wear hats, the spokesperson said that they will need to get a better understanding from TVB.

To respect the disaster relief event, as one of the organizers Eric Tsang expressed on stage that he hoped that all of the Artistes could dress the same, which poses an image of unity. But only Justin who did not follow the same style, yesterday Eric responded to this in another view and pardoned Justin. He said: "This is his personal signature style. I will respect that, I wouldn't want him to wear a wig to the event."

Michael Tse black face
Last night before recording, Eric explained the dress code to the participating Artistes: "If you did not have a white shirt, you can request one from the department. If you have a low-cut shirt on, you must change it. I hope everyone takes off their sunglasses, don't wear hats or roll up your sleeves. Especially on Monday, blue jeans are preferred. We will give out white T-shirts, I hope you all do not break the rules." Because time was tight, many Artistes violated the dress code. Michael Tse who had a jacket on was told by Eric to take it off immediately, his face turned black as he flings off his jacket. Alan Tam arrived late and wore the wrong shirt, he wore a black outfit.

Joey Yung and Charlene Choi donates to the Taiwan typhoon relief

Joey Yung and Charlene Choi donates to the Taiwan typhoon relief
The recent typhoon swept through half of Taiwan relentlessly, many people lost their homes. Taiwan artists and other artists including Joey Yung and Charlene Choi donated to the disaster relief. Altogether, NT$1 million was donated to Taiwan to help the locals.

Because the typhoon has caused serious damages, artists all took their hearts out and donated in relief efforts. Because Jackie Chan is currently in Beijing shooting a movie, he was not able to make it to the disaster relief show, but he did donate NT$1 billion to Taiwan (HKD 2.5 million). He also wrote sent his regards to the victims on his blog: "Have no fear, heavy winds and rain, we will fight it together. There are no homes left, but we will work together in the reconstruction. The aftermath will be a long battle, but I will pay close attention to it!"

Joey and Charlene had work on hand, therefore last night they were not able to participate in the disaster relief show, but they each donated NT$1 million (HKD 25,000) for the relief. Yesterday Joey expressed over the phone: "It is hard to see any kind of natural disaster that happens, I know that its difficult for the victims, we are all apart of the world, why must some be so unlucky to lose their homes, love ones and experience such disaster!"

Even though Joey was not able to attend the show, but she still put in the effort to support the victims in Taiwan, she donated money with all her heart to the victims, she said: "This is to help them in an emergency like this. To be able to help speed up the reconstruction process, so they can get back their homes and warmth. I really hope that in the future, I could really go to Taiwan personally in the future and personally show my encouragement to the victims. I hope they know that everyone cares for them and that they are not alone."

As for Charlene, she also donated NT$1 million to Red Cross, she supported the victims by saying: "The typhoon hit sourthern Taiwan pretty hard, the place is quite a disaster, there are so many people who lost their homes, love ones and warmth. Especially those heros who were trying to save other sand lost their lives and firefighters too. I feel that it is very unfortunate!"

Leon Lai, Andy Hui and other artists donated NT$8 million (HKD 2 million). Wang Lee Hom donated NT$2 million (HKD 50,000). Netizens criticized Lee Hom that his donations is not reasonable considering his income, he responded: "Every person who participated in the disaster relief fund is doing it for their sincerity. Reconstruction will be take a while, but I will continue to support them." S.H.E stopped all their current album promotions and called for everyone to leave a word for the victims, unite together to help the victims.

Joey Yung accepts fate, has no fate with love

A few days ago, Joey Yung accepted an interview from a Mainland program "The Story Behind" (背后的故事). August 3rd was Yung Mama's 50th birthday, the crew brought Joey a surprise by asking her mom to write a short letter entitled "A Letter For My Daughter" to her. When Joey opened the letter and read it, she was very touched and teared up, her tears came down like rain drops. Joey expressed in mandarin: "I have never been the sweetest daughter, but I hope that my mom could be able to see me on television wishing her a happy birthday."

Regrets not formally asking Roman for his apprenticeship
When Joey mentioned her deceased mentor Roman Tam, her tears came running down again as she said: "He told me that I had to learn my Mandarin well, the Mainland market is very important. I am extremely regretful that he passed away, we never had a formal apprentice, but I will forever remember him."

Willing to not care about anything to go love someone
Also, when she first entered the industry, people called her a pizza because she had a flat nose and face. Joey strongly stressed that she had never done cosmetic surgery: "It is a fact that I am not pretty." Although Joey's career blossomed, but her love life is still empty. She helplessly said: "I am a type of person who has no fate with love, I cannot find a nice gentlemen who really loves me. But, just if I meet a person who I have feelings for, or even if he loves me, he loves me a tad more than I love him, I will not care about anything to go for the love."

Joey Yung considers releasing a photo book at age 39

Yesterday Joey Yung accepted a radio interview and played a game with a male fan. Joey personally helped this 14 year old male fan put on make-up. Make-up is her own 'business', she said that at first she was worried that the boy would refuse, but turns out that he had already tried it before for performances. Afterwards, she let him wash off the make-up before going home. Joey said that just now she saw the boy tearing up and thought that he was touched! But then she found out that he was tearing up because when she was putting on the eyeliner on him, she accidentally slipped the eyeliner in his eye. Joey said that besides singing, she has a great interest in make-up. Earlier she helped her assistant put on make-up, making her face look crazy.

Asked if Denise Ho was brave for admitting to homosexuality? She expressed that she has already responded to this earlier. Speaking of Stephy Tang's new book having many word errors, Joey expressed that she has always wanted to release a book of her own, but never had the time. She said that she and Stephy are not that familiar with each other, but she felt that she is a tough girl. Asked if she would first find someone to do proofreading in the future when she releases a book? She expresses that she definitely will because the book should be something to value. Asked if she has interest in releasing a photo book like the "models"? Joey said that when she's 39 years old, if she still has the body figure and appearance, she will consider it because this is actually the best time to release one with the right body figure. She laughed: "If I release a book now, I would definitely lose everything because way too many people are releasing one. Maybe during the winter. Also, I'm afraid Fans won't like me being too sexy."
