Sometimes, even the most experienced may fall prey to conmen.
Veteran TVB actress Michelle Yim, who has acted in countless drama series, and well-known amongst the general public, is a favourite among companies for advertisements and endorsements.
Recently, a company, pretending to be a subsidiary of a listed company in the United States, used Hong Kong as its base to run a scam in China.
The Hong Kong media reported that the company even held a press conference in a five-star hotel, and invited actress Michelle Yim on stage for a speech.
It was later discovered that the company runs a scam that lures unsuspecting investors, so as to cheat their money.
Even now, there are still many investors who refused to believe that they have been cheated, claiming "Michelle Yim was also there, how can it be fake?"
Michelle's manager admitted that the actress was at the launch. However, she emphasised that the actress was paid to "attend the event" and was not briefed about the company's background.
Michelle quickly drew the line when asked about her involvement with the company.
"I was only the guest that day. I left after the event and nobody approached me for any sort of investment," the actress said.
