HONG KONG: More than a hundred Hong Kong celebrities will come together on 1 April at a Jackie Chan-organised charity concert in a bid to raise donations for the earthquake, tsunami and radiation relief efforts in Japan, according to Chinese media reports.

The concert titled "Love Without Borders", will see the appearance of Hong Kong veterans like Eric Tsang, Jackie Chan and Alan Tam as well as younger actors and singers like Bosco Wong and Myolie Wu.

Chan, who had also invited artistes from other regions of Asia such as India and Japan said that the show provided the Hong Kong media industry a way to contribute efforts.

"Whenever China has a disaster, it was easy for us to send in planes and supplies to the affected area, but with the Japan earthquake, it was difficult because no transport was going in and out of the disaster areas," said Chan.

Taiwanese-born, Japan-based Judy Ongg shed light on the details of Fukushima while thanking Hong Kong for their generous donations.

However, singer Leon Lai will not be able to attend the concert.

The 55-year-old singer said, "I think that most Japanese now are hoping for a safe place to stay and hide from the radiation instead of watching shows or listening to music."

Lai added though, that while he was not attending the event, it does not mean that he is not in favour of the efforts of his colleagues.

"It is a way for Hong Kong to show its concern," said Lai.

Singer Kelly Chen is also giving the concert a skip.

Instead, she will be featured in a video at the concert giving her well-wishes to the Japanese victims.

The 38-year-old singer turned actress recently suffered a miscarriage, resulting in the loss of twins.

According to Tsang, who was also Chen's good friend, said, "Kelly is worried that the focus of the concert will be on her instead of the show so she will not be attending."
