Peter Lam: Andy did not hide his marriage on purpose

Southern Metropolis’s Xie Xiao had an interview with Peter Lam.

XX: You know Andy Lau when you’re in ATV, his review had not been bad all these years, how do you rate him? Do you agree with the recent hiding of his marriage?

Peter: I know him for a long time, thus I understand that he’s a good man, he loved his fans the most, this is known by everybody. He really didn’t hide the truth, I understand him. He is an artiste, there are some private matters that he would not like people to know or reveal so early, but he understand that we would know sooner or later. The problem is, he hope that he had a chance to tell everybody, very pity, people know the news before he could tell us. Some fans said that they would not forgive him for lying, some said it doesn’t matter. What’s with him married or not married, doesn’t everybody know that they are together for at least 20 years?

XX: But he always declare that he’s not married, that become that he’s lying.

Peter: He got married just one year ago, but the woman had been with him for at least 20 years, so are you saying that he lied to the woman for 20 years? Everybody know that Andy had a girlfriend for more than 10 years, currently the girlfriend become his wife, it’s not a big matter. If you say he went to rob a bank, I think it would be serious, this is not. I feel that everybody loved him too much and could not win him, thus angry. I don’t love Andy too much, thus it doesn’t matter, haha.

XX: You had so many artistes in your company got married this year, will it affect their work?

Peter: This is their private life, I don’t care, haha! When we signed contract I didn’t say that they need to report to me on everything. Our thinking and artistes are different. From the angle of the company, when an artiste can do a lot is good. Andy can shoot a film today, record his album tomorrow and meet people the next day, his work had been arranged like this all this time.

XX: When shooting Infernal Affairs, if the cast does not includes 4 Best Actors, it would not have such a big impact, what make you wanted to used such a cast? Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chiu Wai does not collaborate, how you managed to convince them?

Peter: Firstly, Andy and Tony had not collaborate for a long time, their collaboration would be a hot topic. I’m also familiar with both of them, Andy just left his own company, Tony also could make it, thus we could collaborate something, they agreed immediately, it’s not a difficult matter. Maybe people feel that both of them would not collaborate, thus would not invest, but I did it. Both of them won Best Actor awards, I earned my money, this is a perfect story. Of course when you’re familiar with someone, they would believe what you said. Everybody know that I invest movies, it would not be a poor production and could satisfied and not cheated them. This is the matter of confidence, it’s a major difference when an old friend telling you things when compared to a new friend.
