Tavia Yeung always gave us an impression of a strong girl. This may be due to her healthy image and proper facial features and most important was because of the role that she acted before. On the fifth year after she entered this field, based on the heroine role, Lee Sau Ling, she received TVB Best Improved Actress Awards. [They have mistaken as the series was Vigilante Force and not Twin Of Brothers]

For Tavia, she was lucky and it was a challenge to her to be able to take part in Heart Of Greed and Moonlight Resonance, which was a hot topic for everyone at that time. Luckily, regardless of Cheuk Man Lai or Ah Yuet, both did not disappointed audiences. Between the 2 roles, Tavia preferred “Lo Lui” role more.

“Man Lai was a person who dares to love, dares to hate, and a strong person. Of course she always ran into troubles. Ah Yuet, who looked fierce from outside, but underneath she was a frail girl who likes to cry. Her life experience was also more pitiful because she seemed to live relying on somebody else and always bullied by Auntie Sa. Actually I prefer Ah Yuet more because I’m actually also someone who will easily touched and cry. In Moonlight Resonance, my scenes were added and I felt that I acted better than in Heart Of Greed. Of course more important was that it helped me to gain this award. “

Heart Of Greed, which received high ratings in 2007, led to big pressure to Moonlight Resonance producers and casts. Moreover, amongst young generation casts inside, Tavia’s role was considered most important. In Moonlight Resonance, half of her time used to quarrel with Suzanna Kwan and another half of her time was being bullied and cried.

“Actually the acting ate up a lot of energy. Quarrelling scenes was better, because I was the one who was being scolded in most of the scenes. As long as I felt I was pitiful then was ok. But there were a lot of crying scenes. There was 1 time when I filmed crying scenes non-stop from 7 pm until 3 am. After finished the scene, my eyes seemed like became a rabbit. But before that, I had already prepared for it because producer already told me from start that I needed to cry almost at every scene. After that, I said ok and let’s express the power of a woman’s tears. “

Tavia Yeung’s roads to success could represent those who graduated from TVB Acting Training Class. Back in 6 years time, she acted before as a background board nun in Justice Sung II, a girl who asked for directions in Return Of The Cuckoo, a TV announcer in Armed Reaction II and also a bad girl in Reaching Out. When her classmate in training class, Raymond Lam has gained some popularity, she was still the Sou Ying Shuet in Eternal Happiness. She was building her base and foundation at that time so that she could outshines her brilliance.

Sohu : Do you think that acted as minor supporting roles that time gave major impact on you?

“That period was the most rewarding period for me. This was because started from 0 could have a step by step process. If you gave me main female lead role from my first series, most probably I might not do it well and would have reverse result. Therefore step by step like this, each of my steps will be stable. Of course, luck is very important for an artiste. Luckily, my luck was quite good."

Sohu : This is your 10th year in this industry. Look back in these 10 years, what is your biggest feeling?

“I have a very different feeling. I watched TVB series since small. That time I will only watched Liza Wang, Adam Cheng, Damien Lau and others’ series from TV. I never thought that after I entered TVB, I could have the chance to act together with them in so many series. Especially in The Prince’s Shadow since I had to collaborate with Adam Cheng as couple. The feeling was strange but I felt happy. “

Sohu : Eternal Happiness was not your first series and was not the series which you were the main female lead. But after Sou Ying Shuet this role, everyone started to notice you.

“Yes ar. Sou Ying Shuet was considered my first more important role in ancient series since I came out from TVB Training Class. That time I was looking forward to it but at the same time a bit worried and kept on revising many scripts. This was because Sou Ying Shuet was a brave, understanding and considerate girl. Moreover, most of my roles in my series before that were tomboyish roles. I was afraid that I was not gentle enough. Therefore, I would kept on ask for other peoples and producer’s comments and opinions. I really put a lot of efforts in acting this role.”

Sohu : Amongst all the series that you have acted before, which role do you like the most?

“Amongst all the roles, besides Ah Yuet, I would prefer Tam Chu Mei in Dicey Business. This role was another breaking point in my acting road. After acted in this series then only I found out that I could act in a comedy series. Moreover, I did something different for the sake of this role, regardless of outlook or the way of speaking. For example, last time I would not dare to wear stripe blouse and short skirts. I also did an “explosion head” and changed the way of talking. At last, I really like the outcome of it."

Sohu : Is that means that you actually like to act those challenging roles and a very different role is it?

“Yes ar. I always felt that an artiste should challenge different types of role. For example, I have acted as elegant ladies, and after that tried out with cute and lively roles and then tried to attempt some mature and fashionable roles. I hope that in my performing life, I can try all types of roles because that is the thing I like in acting. If keep on repeating the same types of roles, I may not be able to do it 1 day.”

Sohu : After this, are there any roles that you want to try?

“Of course got. I have already been a good person for 10 years. For my 11th year, I would like to try to act as a bad person. Therefore, in this period I always examine other people’s acting. I will examine how a bad person’s eyes expressions are. Sometimes, to act as a bad person, it doesn’t depend on your dialogue, but face expressions are also very important. I must try to figure out how is it. I don’t know if audiences will like a baddie role or not but I really want to try it.”

Her ambition when she was small was to be a policewoman. Tavia said that maybe because she likes to stay in a disciplined environment. However, she unexpectedly entered entertainment industry. Actually in this so called “no rules” circle, every artiste also have some compulsory rules to comply with. “For example our work attitude, cannot be late, must memorize script and others. This is the basic requirement. Talk to the end, I felt that at least we must have self-regulation.”

Therefore, the self-regulated Tavia Yeung has become TVB Fa Dan with 0 rumours. All these while, I was curious how she could maintain her pure record in this entertainment field environment. But she herself did not feel that it was a hard thing to do. “Actually not only entertainment field, any other places we also need to learn how to equip ourselves. But this doesn’t mean that we do not need to communicate with other peoples. We just have to prepare ourselves and catch every chance that passes by. Most important is I must have an upright goal and if like that, no matter what other peoples say, I also can obtain it."

Although many people have different meanings on “upright goal”, but Tavia Yeung’s meaning is to do the best for every job and do the best for every role. Furthermore is, treat everyone sincerely. Therefore, although many people said that entertainment circles will not have true friends, but Tavia Yeung had a lot of buddies in this circle.

“As long as you treat your friends sincerely, then you can make more friends. This circle is so big. I do not harm other peoples and other peoples in turn will not harm me. Some people, although really cannot become real good friends, but it is still a good thing that we can also become normal friends.”

Last year before TVB Anniversary Awards, Tavia Yeung kept on telling herself not to feel disappointed even if there was no award for her. This was because everyone had given a firm recognition for Ah Yuet’s role. But inside her heart, she still felt uneasy because anyhow this was the award that she was waiting for 10 years. Although was Best Supporting Actress, but eventually Tavia Yeung treated this as a new starting point in her acting career. Maybe next time the one who stand on awards presentation stage, is Best Actress Tavia Yeung Yi!
