The series “The Last Princess” made and produced by Beijing La Feng Television Company has broken several rating records. From statistics, “The Last Princess’s” rating for its first day was 8.795 when it first aired in GuangXi, Nan Ning. In three days it rose up to 12.085, erasing a long standing record! Although the results were expected, but they still caused a huge shock in the industry. Undoubtedly these ratings will give the series a huge boost to those areas in which have not yet started airing.
Ten years earlier, Qiong Yao’s “Pearl Princess” gained unbelievable attention in all parts of the world with high viewer ratings and viewer reactions. With the exception of the Korean Drama “Jewel in the Palace, there hasn’t been another series that has gained the phenomenal attention similar to the “Pearl Princess”. The Last Princess uses a different story to create this new “fairy tale”. The series has gained a high amount of attention ever since the start of planning, and has been called by the media as “the most anticipated series of 2008”. Even though rating percentages are a complicated factor, but they undoubtedly do reflect the preference of the audience.
Viewers watch TV series based on the overall quality and the plot. Only a well written story, outstanding scenery, and good wardrobes will attract audiences to sit in front of their TVs everyday. Of course, the cast in the series is also very important too. In “The Last Princess” the cast includes of Huo Si Yan, Sammul Chan, Leila Tong, Yan Kuan, Sun Xing, Stephanie Xiao , Florence Chen, Cheng Sha Li, zhong liang and many others from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. It can be said that the cast is very extravagant, and because of this, it adds a lot of flavor to the series.
It seems as though The Last Princess being so “hot” is not all that surprising. First, the attention it has gotten from the media is similar to some of the most popular series in the past including “Pearl Princess”. The cast also successfully brings in some of the most popular actors and actresses of all different age groups, pulling in viewers of all different ages. In this aspect, it seems as though it has already created a very good base for high ratings.
As said earlier, ratings are a very interesting factor. To see if “The Last Princess” will become a classic will take more time to verify, but it doesn’t change the fact that it already is one of 2008’s most popular series.
