Recently, red flags were raised concerning Lydia Shum’s health. She frequently goes to Queen Mary Hospital for medical check-up but her health has taken a bad turn. Yesterday Lydia was unexpectedly taken to Queen Mary’s ICU. A large portion of the media rushed to the hospital when the news spread of Lydia’s ICU visit. Lydia’s daughter (Joyce Cheng), Joyce’s aunt, and Florence Chan’s son appeared at the hospital. They all remained silent about Lydia’s situation.
That night, Lydia’s doctor, 盧寵茂, was visiting the patient’s rooms.

He responded to the reporter’s questions and said: “I will do my best.” When news of Lydia’s ICU stay spread, a lot of people became concerned. When Eason Chan found out about Lydia’s situation, he said: “I am not a Christian but I would pray for Lydia and hope that she becomes healthy.”

Reporters contacted Joyce and she explained that ICU has certain equipments. Lydia made arrangement to go to the ICU to use those equipments. Joyce emphasized that her mom is very resolute and she is okay. She doesn’t want people to worry.

Reporters continually arrived at the hospital after Lydia was at the hospital and they were staking out the place. Joyce, her aunt, and Florence’s son left the hospital around one o’clock in the afternoon. Lydia’s doctor was seen leaving a patient’s room around six o’clock. He was surrounded by the press.

He was asked if Lydia was in coma and other related questions. He did not reply to those questions and said: “Every patient does not wish to have their own condition made public.” After repeated attempts by reporters to get more information, the doctor only said that he is doing his best for Lydia.

Joyce returned to the hospital to visit Lydia around seven o’clock. There were around ten reporters still at the hospital. The hospital needed four security guards to help escort her pass the reporters. Joyce was wearing a mask and it took some time for her to get to the patient’s room. She did not accept any interview.

According to information, Lydia was in ICU because there were certain equipments that were exclusive to ICU. That is why Lydia needed to go to ICU instead of normal patient rooms. If all is well, Lydia would transfer out and go back into the normal patient rooms.

There are reports that Lydia really wanted to go back to Canada to spend CNY with her mother but the hospital did not grant permission. If the results from the check-up are good, then she would be allowed to spend CNY outside of the hospital. That is why Lydia is trying very hard to follow all of the doctor’s order. Yesterday, reporters were able to contact Joyce and she confirmed that her mom was in the hospital. She said it was to use equipment from ICU. She said that Lydia is staying strong and she is fine. People should not worry.

This year, there were several reports about Lydia’s failing health. There were articles in a magazine that said her liver failed and her diabetes caused her to swell. The article states that Lydia could not recognize people and only remembers Joyce. But in reality, Lydia’s body is weak recently. Everyday, there are a lot of caring friends that visits her. In order to gain more rest, Lydia used the reason that she is too tired to decline her friend’s visits. This may be the reason that some may have misunderstood it as Lydia not recognizing them. Some friends have phoned her to ask about her health and Lydia was able to answer their questions with ease. She does not have any loss of memories but her speech may be tired.

Lydia’s good friend Florence accepted an interview from 查小欣. She did mention about Lydia’s health. She said that Lydia lost weight to control her diabetes.
There aren’t any big problems with Lydia’s health.
