Last night, Roger Kwok and Gigi Lai received the “TV King” and “TV Queen” awards, respectively, at Malaysia’s “華麗台電視劇大獎2007” awards show. Roger won “My Favorite Male Artiste” awards because of his character in “Life Made Simple”. Gigi Lai won “My Favorite Female Artiste” due to her character in “Dance of Passion”. This is the second time Roger has received “My Favorite Male Artiste”. He becomes a first time dad this April and joked that his son would win the exact same award in 18 years. He is sure that he would have a handsome son.
Organizers made special arrangements for Gigi’s aunt, 黎萱, to present the award to her. The aunt and niece embraced each other on stage. Her aunt encouraged Gigi and said that being born in the Lai family of artistes has given her a lot of acting opportunities. It is something to be excited about. Therefore, Gigi shouldn’t give up on acting and there is no age limit for acting. Gigi was so touched that she couldn’t hold back the tears.
Nat Chan was the MC for the night. He did not let off any artistes that were involved in scandals or tabloid stories. Sonija Kwok was the first to suffer from Nat. When she was receiving the “My Favorite Character” awards, Nat asked why she didn’t pursue a career to be a MC? Sonija joked that she was afraid of him. Nat then said that he wasn’t Michael Tao so she shouldn’t be afraid. Sonija became embarrassed and tugged at Nat’s sleeves so he would let her off the hook.
Recently, Angela Tong was slapped publicly. On the stage, she was asked the reason behind it. She joked: “I don’t know! Maybe he was jealous I was getting this award!” Kevin Cheng was a big winner with three awards. His tabloid girlfeind Niki Chow and he won the “Favorite On-Screen Couple”. His tabloid stories were the target of jokes also. He could only say that he was still single. Last night, Raymond Lam, Charmaine Sheh, Bosco Wong and Michael Tse were also in attendance.
