TVB actors sweep acting awards at ATA 2011

The annual Asian Television Awards 2011 saw Hong Kong actors Kevin Cheng and Charmaine Sheh bagging top honours for their work

The annual glitzy affair which recognizes top talents and productions amongst the television industry in Asia which was held at Shangri-La Hotel last night, was graced by an assortment of international artistes from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and more.

The highlight and most highly-anticipated awards of the night were -- without a doubt -- the acting awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress.

Despite Singapore's strong showing at the nomination rounds which saw Ch 5 and Ch 8 artistes bagging five out of seven spots in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category, the coveted award of the night went to Hong Kong TVB actor, Kevin Cheng, for his stellar turn as a street lawyer in the drama series, Ghetto Justice.

Apart from his Asian Television Awards (ATA) 2011 win, the 42-year-old also recently picked up awards for his role in Ghetto Justice at the Astro Awards 2011 in Malaysia and the annual TVB Anniversary Awards 2011 held last week.

Beating local actors such as Tay Ping Hui and Christopher Lee in the acting category, Kevin was running high on emotions at the post-awards interview with xinmsn as he effusively thanked "fans in Singapore, Hong Kong and China" for all their support through the years.

"I'm really happy. The award I received on the 5th [during the TVB Awards] was based amongst my colleagues, whereas this is a regional award from Asia. I feel very proud and honoured," said Kevin, who was clad in a simple and crisp black tux for the event.
