Maggie Shiu to wed ahead of ex-beau
The Hong Kong actress will reportedly tie the knot with her boyfriend in March next year
Forty-seven-year-old Maggie Shiu's love life had been lacklustre since ending her relationship with Ekin Cheng in 1999. Things changed when she met Chinese martial arts star Vincent Sze while filming Johnnie To's Tactical Unit: Comrades in Arms in 2008.
Following Ekin's confirmation that he would be marrying current girlfriend Yoyo Mung next year, rumours sprang that Maggie is planning to tie the knot before her ex-beau. The wedding is rumoured to be held next March at Bethanie Chapel in Hong Kong.
Due to the 9-year age difference, Maggie and Vincent maintained a low profile on their May-December romance. Though their relationship came to light last year, the two had unanimously refuted the claims and referred to each other as '˜good friends'.

Maggie Siu secret marriage, hard to high the happiness
Friday December 9, 2011 Hong Kong

Yesterday Maggie Siu attended "Reach For The Heart" charity event. It was recently rumored she has been in a long time relationship with martial arts actor Vinz Sze. The two have been cohabiting and secretly got married. Appears to have gained some weight, Maggie was congratulated constantly by the reporters, but she came prepared: "I am not talking about my personal life, why don't we talk more about this event. I'll talk about the secret marriage rumor next time. I want to read more reports first. After all, if necessary, I will provide an explanation to everyone. I understand too that you all need to have an explanation for your company too, I will make arrangements!"
When she heard reporters praised that she's full of smiles, Maggie continued: "You all (reporters) too, Christmas is coming and I'm doing a charity event, of course I should look pretty!" As for if ex-lover Ekin Cheng congratulated her? She laughed: "I'll answer next time. (You will admit next time?) I need to lay it out first, talk about it next time!" She also said she is currently busy shooting for a Lunar New Year film and a costume drama.

MAGGIE SHIU: WITHOUT EXPERIENCING SADNESS AND PAIN, HOW CAN ONE KNOW TRUE HAPPINESS?

During the promotional event for TVB drama “Gem of Life” held in Hangzhou, leading actress Maggie Shiu appeared slightly nervous perhaps due to her limited fluency in spoken mandarin as she gestured animatedly while struggling to express herself as best as she could. Yesterday afternoon, both the actress and her co-star Kenny Wong who emerged as winners in a recent online [1]voting contest for most popular Gem of Life characters, participated in the Gem of Life function organized by WASU Hang Zhou Digital TV Pte Ltd. As the organizer had specially requested the media not to probe into the personal “love life” of the two stars, most of the interviews centered on the career of the artistes.
Since more than a decade, Maggie Shiu has been a familiar face to audience in China, with her roles in popular TVB dramas such as “Looking Back in Anger”, “Blood of Good and Evil” and “The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre 1986”. However, these dramas she starred in were TVB’s epic productions dating back more than 10 years ago and even earlier. Looking back at her roles in numerous dramas, it seems that she mostly portrayed characters going through painful ordeals in love and relationships. Even the character Sylvia Hong in Gem of Life, the eldest of the Hong sisters, has a painful love story to tell.
Regarding this, Maggie Shiu commented in a helpless tone: “When I saw the script, I felt and said to myself, Sigh, such a bitter role again. Yet, this is after all my job and while portraying such bitter and painful roles does affect my state of mind, I am getting better and faster in withdrawing myself from the emotions of the characters, after so many years of acting. Now I will tell myself, whenever I have my makeup on, it is working time and when I am without make-up, I am off work and I will quickly meet up with friends, exercise and enjoy a meal.”
Being TVB’s “veteran”, Maggie Shiu had co-starred with uncountable number of the hottest leading actors in TVB such as Tony Leung in the 80s and Deric Wan in the 90s. However, on the topic of whom she likes most as her co-star, Maggie Shiu remains impartial and expressed: “Each of the actors I co-starred with is a good guy. Up till now I still keep in touch with them so I cannot say anything negative about them.”
Lastly, Maggie Shiu revealed that she hoped to be able to take on a happier and more light-hearted role in her next project. While everyone was basking in a celebratory mood, the actress asked a rhetorical question in a somber note, “Without experiencing sadness and pain, how can one know true happiness?”

Please, no complications
Singapore, 13 Dec 2008
MUCH as actress Maggie Shiu says she is unlike the strong-willed character she plays in The Gem Of Life, snatches of her TV alter-ego Sylvia Hong surfaced during a recent interview with The New Paper.
MUCH as actress Maggie Shiu says she is unlike the strong-willed character she plays in The Gem Of Life, snatches of her TV alter-ego Sylvia Hong surfaced during a recent interview with The New Paper.
Set against the backdrop of the dazzling gem industry, the 82-episode TV series revolves around the lives of three sisters.
Maggie, 43, said: '(Eldest daughter) Sylvia is a stubborn woman who does not share her mother's materialistic view of love and marriage.
'I wonder, is this the case with all mother-daughter relationships? If you don't listen to mummy, then does it mean you're stubborn?'
If those questions were personal musings of her relationship with her mother, Maggie was not telling - just as how her character, an artiste manager, keeps her personal issues with her family away from the public.
Maggie said: 'She doesn't really approve of what her mother or sisters do. She will just tolerate them in public, but will return home to settle their differences privately.
'Plus, her job requires her to be a very decisive woman, one who knows what she really wants and will do anything to secure the best for the many artistes under her care.'
She also defended the common perception that artiste managers could sometimes be more difficult than their charges.
Maggie said: 'I feel it's the artistes who have more unreasonable demands than the managers.
'Often, the manager is just the middleman. Then again, I actually think it's fine for either party to be demanding.
'What's more important is the agenda you have in mind and ultimately, the end result.'
Whether it is Sylvia or the strong roles she usually plays, Maggie is often perceived to be a level-headed and no-nonsense woman.
But she disagreed: 'I'm not someone who'll insist on adhering to my principles. Essentially, I always believe there's room for discussion or negotiation.
'It all depends on the situation. Sometimes, when one is on unfamiliar ground, one could possibly be weak too.'
Despite that, her fans, such as housewife Ho Yue Ming, 44, still thinks of her as a tough cookie. Mrs Ho said: 'Look at how well she handled the betrayal in the past.'
Mrs Ho, who has been Maggie's fan since she starred in TV series The Breaking Point in 1991, added: 'She bounced back quickly and focused completely on establishing a stronger foothold in acting.'
Maggie herself confessed: 'I'm someone who dislikes complication. If the situation gets sticky, I will just walk away to avoid being caught in it.'
Just like Sylvia has to deal with the paparazzi, Maggie has had her fair share of encounters.
'I guess they're all just doing their jobs. If we choose to think they're intruding on our private space, then they are.
'I adopt a very simple attitude and that is one of acceptance. This way, I would feel less bothered by them.'

Bowie Lam's character of a doting boyfriend has viewers swooning and co-star Maggie Siu head over heels in love
The Gem of Life boasts a star-studded cast including (from left) Louise Lee, Bowie Lam, Maggie Siu and Bosco Wong, who were in town for a press conference at Gallery Hotel. -- PHOTO: JOSEPH NAIR FOR THE STRAITS TIMES
Popular Hong Kong actress Maggie Siu is in love with fellow actor Bowie Lam's character, having acted as his girlfriend in the blockbuster drama series The Gem Of Life.
She says: 'I started to miss having such a doting boyfriend after the shoot was over.'
The 43-year-old is not the only smitten one.
Lam, also 43, reveals that many fans have been sending him love letters every day after his outstanding performance as a dream boyfriend in the 82-episode star-studded drama.
The Gem Of Life revolves around three sisters whose father works as a manager in a big jewellery company. Their mother believes that the key to a happy marriage is money and reminds them constantly to marry wealthy men in order to enter into high society.
Lam plays the eldest sister's boyfriend, who is the owner of an entertainment company. His character is an ambitious man who has a busy and successful career, yet still makes time for his girlfriend and cares a lot about her.
Lam, Siu and co-stars Bosco Wong and Louise Lee were in town this week to promote the HK$100 million (S$19.7 million) drama, which is available here in VCD and DVD formats at video rental outlets.
Lam tells Life! in Mandarin at Gallery Hotel: 'The viewers, ranging from young kids to old women, all love my character in the show as I may be unreasonable at times but am still very caring and loving towards my girlfriend.'
But he is not so romantic in real life, he says. For one thing, he does not believe in giving jewellery to someone he likes.
Currently single, he says: 'I'd rather give my loved ones money because it's so much more practical. Jewellery doesn't appeal to me.'
The same goes for 28-year-old Wong, who plays a man who falls for the rich granddaughter of the jewellery company's owner. He says a guy should buy jewellery for his loved ones only once or twice a year because 'such acts will be meaningless if done too many times'.
Wong reveals he had felt very stressed acting with Lam in the drama. The boyish-looking actor says: 'Lam is a very good actor who is quiet and serious on set and I felt pressured to match his standards.'
Lam, who did not know about this prior to the press conference, says jokingly in return: 'Don't worry, I look fierce but I am not.'
Amid the jokes and laughter, the four artists say they are not too worried about their jobs in the light of the recent termination of more than 200 workers from their company, Television Broadcasts Limited, to cut costs. But they add that they feel very sad about their colleagues' departures.
Veteran actress Lee, 58, who plays the mother of the three sisters, says: 'It is heart-rending and I'm sure no company wants this to happen to its staff.'
Lam agrees, saying: 'Although I'm not directly affected, I know many people who worked behind the scenes. I feel upset that they have to lose their jobs now.'

Ada Choi, Maggie Siu, Moses Chan, Bowie Lam, Kenny Wong, Linda Chung and Bosco Wong and other "The Gem of Life" cast members were all in a one night store in Central for the "Creative Wine Tasting" promotion. During the event, they were split into teams they tasted cocktails and red wines. Only saw Moses drank so much that his face was getting red, but in the end Bowie Lam, Maggie and Kenny's team won. Afterwards there was a raffle for a handbag, Ada got the lucky ticket, she expressed that she was very happy!
Ada who usually likes to drink red wine and would often "drink up wine". She exposed: "before when I was in Japan for my honeymoon, I got really drunk and vomited, then I encountered some Hong Kong fans and they requested a picture with me. At the time because I was drunk and had a bad attitude, so I rejected them. My husband had to go apologize to fans for me." Asked if she paid attention to Joseph Lau (Big Lau 劉鑾雄) and Yvonne Lui (呂麗君)'s gossips? She smiled: "Recently I have been paying more attention to 'The Gem of Life' TV ratings and go online to see what netizens are saying about the series. That is already enough to keep me busy, things that are not my business I don't worry so much about! (Will you call Big Lau and congratulate him for being a father again?) Right now I am already Mrs. Zhang, I'm busy cooking and making soup! (Big Lau got knocked by a reporter's microphone, it is big news, you should notice though?) Bowie and Maggie same thing, Maggie used her heels to hit Bowie's head, she hit him so nicely, Bowie's expression looked bad enough! (Is reality better to watch or is the series better to watch?) Of course the series is better to watch, filmed for a whole year, went to so many places...."
Bowie Lam visited people on Mountains, Not afraid of Danger
Bowie said that the scene where he was bashed in the head, the heels were not made from hardware, but during filming because Maggie used her real strength to hit me, so I really felt some pain. Bowie also reveals that earlier he and Yoyo Mung arrived in Mainland's mountain villages to vist. Although the roads were dangerous, but being able to help the sick, he feels its quite meaningful, if its more dangerous he'll be able to take it.
Also, Moses at first expressed that because he gets drunk easily, so he usually does not drink much, but afterwards he said that he doesn't get drink easily and start a 'short show'. Because of his inconsistent responses, he was asked by reporters about it. Moses said that at the time of the event he was already drunk.

Monday October 20, 2008 Hong Kong
Credits: to Matchbox @ http://www.mediachamber.net/
Yesterday evening the cast of TVB Anniversary (Gem of Life) went on a luxury cruise to promote the series. The main leads Gigi Lai, Ada Choi, Maggie Siu, Bowie Lam, Moses Chan and Wong Hei all attended the promotion. The outfit’s Ada and Maggie wore attracted the most attention.
Despite the cast having a splendid buffet meal and watching Synchronised Swimming performances. Afterwards the cast made wishes with the candle holders and placed them in the pool hoping the TV ratings will be a success. When the female cast was placing the candles in to the pool. The actresses were in a quite difficult situation because they did not want to get their sexy outfits wet and expose themselves. Gigi also joked that she was afraid Bowie who was behind her was going to push her into the water. When the function was drawing to a close, the group felt very high and Moses, Bowie and Kenny Wong did stripping dances which making the females scream of joy.
Ada and Maggie attracted the most attention with their outfits. Ada said she was sponsored for the outfit and most important is that it is suitable for the atmosphere. She had a lot of confidence in the new series "There are very few series that will air 2 episodes at once. I believe the ratings won't be bad. I hope the audience will like it". In the series Ada will have many opportunities in wearing diamonds. In real life does Ada like wearing jewels? She said "I do like buying diamonds. I originally asked my husband to buy diamonds for me as a birthday present but then he said he preferred to buy a suitcase for me as it is durable and can last forever". Maggie said she will not expose herself as the outfit fitting is very tight. When the reporter mentioned her and Ada had stolen the limelight from Gigi. She said "We can all alternate looking beautiful. Most important is being comfortable with what you are wearing". Maggie also said she has confidence with the TV ratings but will not give herself too much pressure.
Gigi generously praises Ada and Maggie looking beautiful and didn't mind having her limelight taken away from her. (The Gem of Life) is Gigi's debut epic production and she said she had confidence in the ratings. As for many things happening during the filming. Gigi said "When I look back there are many changes, such as my brother's accident but each person has their own personal experiences. I will be strong and face it and work hard". Gigi was also reported suffering from mental disorder Mania as she was telling her assistant off. She said "Perhaps the reporters had noticed I did not have much news so wanted to create some sparks. But it's better than not having any news. I do not suffer from the Mania disorder". (Did you tell your assistant off) "You should go and ask my assistant".

Leila becomes mom, challenging acting skills

source: TVB Chinese News Collection
translation by: mars123cc @ http://asianfanatics.net
Leila tong, Samuel Pang, and Maggie Siu (邵美琪) will be working together in Dennis Law‘s new film. Leila will act a mother who has a lot of mental problems; knowing that her boyfriend sexually harassed her daughter but still does not say anything. There are a lot of more personal scenes, giving Leila’s acting skills a huge test. Dennis Law said, “I think Leila’s acting is really good. The character’s inner feelings are very complex and I really want Leila to act this part. This movie combines some of the more recent styles of detective movies into it. The main female character is a woman who knows that her boyfriend has sexually harassed her daughter, but says nothing about it. In the end she personally kills her daughter. At first I thought Leila wouldn’t agree to this part, but after she read the script she thought the character would be a big challenge for her and she accepted it”.
The main male character is to be played by Samuel Pang, who acts as Leila’s boyfriend. Dennis Law said, “Samuel considered it for a long time before finally agreeing to act in it. I am really grateful of him and Leila. Although this movie has some sensitive subjects about it, but there won’t be any graphical content.” Maggie Siu will act as a top policewoman, she will often times be very violent. It will be a new challenge!

TVB's "Anniversary Awards Ceremony 2008" and "Anniversary Extravaganza" will be held on the 15th and 19th of November. To welcome TVB's 41st Anniversary, TVB held a lighting ceremony at TVB City yesterday. All the TVB artistes were present and took group photos together. This year due to "Moonlight Resonance" having extremely high viewing ratings, the senior artistes were particularly valued such as Louise Lee, Nancy Sit, Ng Kwan Lai, Lee Heung Kum, Michelle Yim and Susanna Kwan who all stood in the front row. Liza Wang stood next to Sir Run Run Shaw.
Every year when the TVB Anniversary has a lighting ceremony, they would take group photos together and do promotions. At 5pm yesterday, Sir Run Run Shaw arrived and was accompanied by Miss Hong Kong winner Edelweiss Cheung. He appeared very well and his walking movements were stable. He stood in the middle inbewteen Liza Wang and Dodo Cheng. The Fa Dan's that stood in the front row this year were Gigi Lai, Ada Choi, Charmaine Sheh, Sheren Tang and Maggie Siu. In the second row stood the male leads including Moses Chan, Roger Kwok, Bowie Lam, Kevin Cheng, Bosco Wong, Ron Ng, Ivan Ho, Michael Tse, Patrick Dunn, Bobby Au Yeung, Michael Miu, Wong Hei, Paul Chun, David Chiang and Matthew Ko.
Myolie Wu who has been nominated for "My Favourite Female Character Role" was arranged to stand in the 3rd row with Tavia Yeung, Kate Tsui, Linda Chung and Fala Chen. All of the artistes had to do hand gestures to promote TVB's 41st Anniversary. Sir Run Run Shaw watched Liza Wang as she demonstrated and copied. Afterwards Liza praised him "Very Smart".
Joyce Cheng was arranged to sing her new drama theme song. She appeared quite nervous and admitted afterwards that it affected her performance. She hoped that she could retake it. As for being arranged to perform first she said " TVB really love me, I feel like I have officially joined the TVB family. I have been raised drinking TVB's milk and have been drinking it since I was in my mother's stomach".
"The Gem of Life" cast show off jewels
The cast of "The Gem of Life" Gigi Lai, Moses Chan, Maggie Siu etc did an catwalk and showed off jewels. Maggie Siu who wore a low cut dress was most sexy out of all of them. She joked "Sorry that I scared all of you". Afterwards, Wong Cho Lam and Elvina Kong acted out an comedy scene to wish TVB Happy Birthday. Kevin Cheng and Charmaine Sheh were both present. Even though he said he didn't feel awkward and didn't mind taking photos together, in the end he never took any with her. He personally said that September was the Gossip month. He hopes September will pass quickly and all the gossip will fade away. As for who he thinks will win "Best Actor"? He personally feels all the cast from "Moonlight Resonance" have a high chance. When we mentioned that Charmaine has also been nominated. He replied "I support her too". Charmaine thanked Kevin for his comments but doesn't have much confidence in winning because "Moonlight Resonance" is too powerful. She personally has high hopes for Susanna Kwan in taking the TV Queen award.

Ada Choi's Mainland series to be shown on ATV, TVB did not make things hard for her

TVB's new series "The Gem of Life" will air next month on the 20th. Ada Choi, Gigi Lai, Maggie Siu, Louise Lee, Linda Chung, Moses Chan and Bowie Lam etc attended the press conference yesterday. They were surrounded by 200 members of the public. Ada was often whispering in Gigi's ears and showing her body figure. Earlier she filmed an ATV series "Who Is The Winner 2008" however TVB did not make things hard for her. But Lawrence Ng who also filmed an ATV series received a solicitor's letter. Ada joked "Everytime I film an mainland series I will apply for permission first before I film, that way it won't make people feel uncomfortable".
Ada stressed that when you film a mainland series you can't control which channel it will be shown on. Most important is that you get permission from TVB. As for Lawrence Ng receiving a solicitor's letter , Ada replied "It's none of my business, you should allow him to answer this". She stated that when she filmed the series she had made it clear. If the series is sold to i-Cable, ATV or Channel Now, she will not help in the promotions, only for TVB. "TVB is my first priority, I respect them".
Reports claimed Moses Chan is nominated in receiving the TVB King award this year. But Linda Chung had no fate in being nominated for her role in "Moonlight Resonance". Moses said "I am not clear of the name list, actually this year I don't have a big chance, nobody is more outstanding than Ha Yu (Jo Bau). Also Raymond Lam is very powerful this year, his singing is a success and his acting is stable". He stated that he hopes Jo Bau will win the award.
Linda Chung already knew she would not be included in the list of nominees "This year an artist will only be nominated for one role in one series. Instead I think more highly of "The Legend of the Demigods", the TV ratings were good and it's my first main lead. I am not worried if I don't receive any awards this year. I will leave it to the company and the audience to decide. Also I did not enter the industry with the target of competing in winning the TV Queen award. People who approve of my acting is enough to make me happy".

Maggie Siu successfully quits smoking and receives the "Healthy Star" title

Source: Mingpao
Translated by: kingkongit27 @ asianuniverse
Maggie Siu received the "Healthy Star" title yesterday. She personally reckoned she was chosen because it had to do with her successfully quitting smoking. She said "I quit smoking 8 years ago, at first it was very hard because many of my friends were smoking around me. I required 1 month in order to be successful". Personally she considers Simon Yam as the healthy star. "Simon Yam is very healthy, he isn't a heavy drinker and also does alot of exercise. But the only bad habit he has is that he hasn't quit smoking". (Will you persuade Simon to quit?) "I will not tell my friends to quit, in the past I suddenly wanted to quit myself and I did. Whether or not others quit smoking is for them to decide".

Maggie & Chen Ling-Li are not enemies after all
Chen Ling-Li has not been seen in the public eye since the announcement of her divorce with Andrew Lam.
Yesterday she appeared as a guest for 2% Autumn/Winter Fashion Show. Her rumored enemy, Maggie Siu, who was said to have been involved with Mr.Lee (the boss), was there as well. However, enemy or not, there was no tension between the two. They took pictures together both said that Mr. Lee was their friend as well as a mahjong mate.
Chan Ling-Li said "I had a good break. There have been a lot of rumors and I didn't want to appear in public. Now it seems like things have died down a bit. (Did your son ask you about the divorce?) He was very mature about it and knows that we have been separated for a while. Now Andrew sees his son at least once a week. We have dinner together just like a family. This is a modern world. If we can't be husband and wife, we can still be friends. We are like brothers and sisters. (Is he paying you for maintenance?) Sure, but I am not a money grabber."
