On November 1st, Steven Ma will be joining the crew for Mainland drama Legend of the Yuan Empire Founder, but before he takes off there are still many issues unsettled. Aside from shooting TVB new series Prosperous Father, he still has to talk to TVB about terminating his contract early. He hopes to settle the issue by next weekend.
The October 28th Deadline
Steven's TVB contract initially expires in June next year, but because there are issues with the work under TVB management, he wants to terminate his contact early. The issue has been troubling for months now. Earlier TVB executive Virgina Lok questioned if Steven was whining before the TVB Anniversary Awards approaches, which makes people wonder if Steven is really 'fussing' for an award.
Yesterday Steven was shooting on the street for Prosperous Father with Linda Chung. Steven clarified he is not terminating his contact because he wants an award and further clarified his position that he doesn't want to be TVB King: "This morning, I discussed my contract termination with TVB. (What do you want TVB to give you?) Whatever it is, I definitely don't want an award, I don't want any awards. (If TVB shows their sincerity and gives the 'TV King' award to you?) No that's ok!" Although both sides are on a deadlock, Steven expressed he hopes TVB can give him new direction before October 28th. He laughed: "This year I don't want TV King, but that does not mean I have no chance to get it!"

Fala Chen defends the 'daughter-in-law' mystery to avoid awkwardness in 'husband's family'
Wednesday June 22, 2011 Hong Kong

Yesterday morning at 11am, Fala Chen was spotted in the lobby of the airport with her father. Once they saw reporters taking photos, they quickly bounced apart and did not stop for interviews. She only said: "I'm just sending off my Daddy's flight!" When her father entered the gate, Fala left and attended TVB series Live on Omission blessing ceremony. Earlier, Fala attended Neway's Prince (Sit Sai Hang) grandmother's funeral as the family's 'daughter-in-law', which won her arrangements to sit with the family. Fala responded: "It is an unhappy event (the funeral), I don't want to talk about it."

Myolie Wu and TVB Artists Comment on Bosco Wong’s Nude Photo Scandal
Regarding the paparazzi secretly photographing Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) nude at home, rumored girlfriend, Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), said exasperately, “I don’t know what to say. Everyone saw his entire body! I am very concerned that Bosco will not be unhappy, fortunately he has been okay. I hope they do not continue taking unauthorized photos. It’s as if Bosco were in jail at home now, trying to hide and avoid [exposure]. I heard that the reporter took the nude photographs from a public location, so there are no grounds for a lawsuit!”
Raymond Lam and Ron Ng: “We Always Close Our Curtains!”
Raymond Lam (林峯) and Ron Ng (吳卓羲) supported their good friend, Bosco Wong, who was photographed nude by the paparazzi. Raymond said, “This incident crosses the boundary of the law. Normally, I am very careful and will permanently close the curtains at home. No sunlight comes through!”
Ron Ng said, “My curtains are permanently drawn at home! However, I am unafraid. Even if someone photographs my home, they will only capture my mother, my maid, and myself.”

1000s of Chinese Artists (CN, TW, HK) microblog-power for earthquake disaster relief
Thursday April 15, 2010 Hong Kong

At 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Yushu County of Qinghai Province, China. The news shook our hearts, there current death toll has rised to 617, nearly 10,000 wounded. A Hong Kong volunteer (Wong Fok Wing) for the local disaster relief was killed due to the buildings crushing in on him. The hero shocked our hearts, even the Mainland, Taiwanese and Hong Kong artists. Everyone expressed their feelings and sent their condolences through their microblogs, showing how united the community is. Many donated materials, money and sent blessings to the earthquake victims.
The big 7.1 magnitude earthquake hits the Chinese region once again, testing the power of love and unity. Regardless, people living in Hong Kong are blessed. The recent Taiwanese and the SiChuan earthquake two years ago are still fresh in Mainland artists memories. The heroic acts of the disaster relief volunteer (Wong Fok Wing) in saving others lives was named "Hong Kong Hero" by Gigi Leung on her microblog.
Thousands of Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwanese artists expressed on their microblogs of the united spirit, no separation of power, constantly calling for donations, disaster relief activities and charities. Aaron Kwok and Lynn also did not avoid each other, working hard together in doing charity work. Miriam Yeung, Steven Ma and Jet Li paid their tributes to the hard working rescue team, hoping they can look after their own health too. Others who wrote on their blogs about the earthquake: Karen Mok, Andy Lau, Alan Tam, Myolie Wu, Janice Man, Michelle Reis, Kenny Kwan, Ivana Wong, Angelababy, Michelle Ye, etc.
Other facts:
- Twins plans to donate the money they earned from the concert to the disaster relief
- Anthony Wong donated 200,000 yuan
- Joey Yung donated 100,000 yuan
- Li Yuchun's Fund raised 1 million yuan

On the day of the photo shoot, the temperature was only 7.7 degrees Celsius, but their professionalism bared through the cold and they had also changed into many outfits. Fala expressed, "Both of us earned a bit for this wedding ad, so it's big riches for the New Year. Also, we were joking throughout the shoot, and we are the only ones who know the meaning of them. During the last photo shoot, I found out that I had a fever, yet it didn't feel labourious. I went home and slept for over ten hours, and it was fine". Steven said, "Actually, the outfits can be a very grand. They feel like they are clothes you'd wear for a stage performance. I didn't want to take it off after putting them on".
Steven expressed that he was the spokesperson of this bridal shop six years ago, but his partner has changed to Fala, so it is more refreshing. He said, "Younger sister and I have filmed in many series together, so we have already had chemistry from early on. That is why we didn't feel any awkwardness, and the outcome of the shoot felt very warm. I'm very satisfied with it".
Steven revealed earlier that he has thoughts about marriage, so Fala seized the opportunity and asked Steven when he was going to get married. Fala laughed, "I heard you talking about marriage, that is why I'm coordinating you by saying this". Steven then joked and asked Fala about her marriage date, but Fala only laughed and did not answer. Steven said, "I'll wait unit you get married, then I will get married. If you marry first, then I will be a brother-in-law, so I will hang a pair of pants by the door, and you will need to go under it in order to be allowed to be married".

Steven Ma is willing to have motor scooter fall on him than Fala Chen

In TVB's new series "Transferred Connection of Temptation", Fala Chen and Steven Ma play a couple for the first time and even had a cheek kiss scene. But Steven smiled that he is not embarrassed: "We are just too familiar with each other, no embarrassment!" Although the kiss scene did challenge them, but in the series the two had a scene where they were being chase and escaping in a motor scooter, which is quite dangerous.
But Steven was such a gentlemen as he smiled and said that he'll take care of Fala: "I told Fala that if we get into an accident, I would rather let the scooter hit me instead and not let Fala get hurt!"

Steven Ma & Fala Chen Filming in Sam Shui Poo

Steven Ma and Fala Chen were filming a late night dating scene for "Transferred Connection of Temptation"in Sam Shui Poo. In order to create a romantic effect, the director had arranged to use man-made rain, and it had attracted mosquitoes to the scene. Steven and Fala quickly became dinner for the mosquitoes. Their arms and thighs were red from the mosquito bites. Although they were spraying bug spray on non-stop and rubbing on ointment, it wasn't enough stop the itchiness. As the water vehicle was making false rain, it started to rain. The scene was finally completed after a couple hours of feeding to the mosquitoes. Steven said, "Luckily we have such a big crew to take care of us. I hope that the series will film smootly. We are not afraid of hard work because facing a beauty like younger sister (Fala) can be considered as happiness found in pain (苦中有樂)".

Steven Ma recently said on on his blog that he has found his love. Getting married and having children is what he has always hoped for in having a happy life. He said "As long as it's true love then that's good. Thats enough". He also stated that recently many of his friends have got married and he can feel their happiness.
In addition, he met 2 fortune tellers by coincidence and discussed about his future. The 2 fortune tellers both said that he would get married next year or the year after. After hearing this Steven felt very happy. He asked them who he would get married to? Both of the fortune tellers said that it would not be a ex lover but are certain that this person will be love at first sight. Steven is looking forward to it.

Contract Renewal Seesawed for a Year; Successive Interventions by Higher Management;
source: Mingpao Weekly vol. 2126
Translator: Tamaya @ http://asianfanatics.net
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last July, representing TVB, Virginia Lok initiated the contract renewal talks with Steven Ma, but both parties had not been able to reach a consensus, then. During that period, Catherine Tsang and Mr. Chan陳輝光 (Sir Run Run Shaw’s right hand man, Senior Advisor of TVB Administrative Office) had successively expressed their concerns over the situation. It was not until Stephen Chan struck the decisive note did Ma Zai finally sign the contract this week, after a year or more seesawing on its crucial terms and conditions.
“Actually, I’d already decided to leave TVB, and not renew my contract.”
From initially wanting to leave to finally happily staying put, Ma Zai speaks out for the first time, recounting in details the ups and downs, and the reversal of his thoughts during that period. His career is looking up; moreover, his love relationship is getting a new lift, too. “Recently, two masters (fortune tellers) incredibly told me the same thing – said that next year or the year after, I might get married. Maybe with an ex-flame or maybe with a love at first sight.”
In the midst of our animated conversation, Ma Zai, who rarely talked about the matter of the heart, unexpectedly bared it all, and openly divulged the real reasons for his breakup with his ex-girlfriend. The issue of Steven Ma’s contract renewal inexplicably engendered the personal involvement of several TVB VIPs. Even the male lead was taken aback by their interests.
“Of course, Zhan Jie has always been concerned about me. Earlier this year, Mr. Chan looked me up to discuss this matter. And then later came Stephen. Every one of them asked me why I still hadn’t signed the contract yet. Actually, I’d already decided to leave. I thought that Pu Songling would be my last TVB series.”
Ma Zai is the kind of tough-mentality guy who will not display a show of hand. Hence, even when entangled in a year’s long of contract renewal problems, he remained unflappable and showed no signs of being troubled.
“In these four years, there were of course good times and bad times. I don’t want to make myself unhappy, so might as well leave. And plan for the next stage of my career path.”
Ma Zai is TVB’s overseas market guarantee. His popularity in Mainland China is ever soaring. There have been already several management agencies beckoning him to their camp. And that as soon as his contract terminates, he would concentrate all his energy to “attack” the divine land. (China)
What made Ma Zai discontent with his lot? Was it because there was never any sight of him in TVB’s grand productions?
He smiles and says with equanimity: “Many artistes and crew members called me “Brother Dagger” (Dao Zai Goh) If want to overcome other people, a dagger would suffice. A Journey Called Life garnered 35 points; Safeguards had a high of 42 points. It is not necessary that only grand productions can get good results. Moreover, there is less pressure in making a 20-25 episode-series.”
Of course, he is well aware of his own worth. But halfway through his contract negotiation, a rumor arose whereby in a management meeting, Ms. Lok had bluntly criticized Ma Zai’s inability to “enter homes”, which promptly provoked someone’s rebuttal, “Is it only your home that he can’t enter?” Zhan Jie also brought forth the issue of what to do with his 3 unaired series namely, “A Watchdog’s Life”, “The Stars of Love”, and “Pu Song Ling” if he leaves. The executives had an explosive face-off, because of Ma Zai, its tension was so thick it could not be dispersed.
Does Ma Zai believe this rumor?
“I’m not privy to what went on in management meetings. So how can I say whether I believe or not? What I can say is that in Stephen Chan’s recent book signing session, I met Ms. Lok. She said, “Crazy ka! (sou ga!) Among TVB many artistes, only you and Roger Kwok have entered my home.” Ms. Lok leads the human resources department, why would she say anything to harm her own artistes?”
Ratings aside, with utmost confidence and with past examples as backups, he upholds his ability to ‘enter homes”.
“When walking down the streets, one can gauge how the public feel about oneself. Can’t be fooled. There was this one time when this older man of about forty or fifty years old approached me and hugged me, and said: “Ma Chun Wai, you’re a good ming sing.” When out shopping for food, people will surround me for autograph signing and for picture taking. Maybe they don’t see me as a ming sing (star) but I’m very close to the viewing public. I’m not the aloof kind of artistes.”
Furthermore, he does not believe that his three finished products would in anyway influence the outcome of the contract negotiation.
“I’ve always said that TVB is a very successful electronic dissemination media; no one is indispensable to it. Even if I really did leave, the series can be aired on pay tv or sold to overseas markets, or even be broadcast later here. It is all based on mutual benefits."
Confess to be of Zhan’s party.
Did TVB really conclude that Ma Zai cannot “enter homes”? Based on how TVB disregarded the contract renewal situation, the baseless rumors quickly collapsed. And General Manager, Stephen Chan, finally showed his hand.
“I was very happy after our discussion. First and foremost, I felt his sincerity; second, he gave me confidence. I believe what he said would be honored.”
Where did the confidence come from? Ma Zai said it all because of the three words that came out of Stephen’s mouth. “He said to me: “You see lah!” To see what he will do. He also encourages me to be more proactive in voicing my opinions and concerns. For instance, I love to cook; and have always wanted to host a food/beverage program. But had kept that inside me, so who would know? Zhan Jie and Ms. Lok always complained that I am not open with my concerns. I should really do some self-reflections. They are not the worms inside my stomach. If I don’t speak out how can the problems be resolved?”
Ma Zai’s discontentment accumulated over time almost pushed him over to the edge, if not for Stephen’s timely intervention. And precisely because of Stephen’s high profile involvement, some people said Ma Zai is now categorized and has become Stephen’s latest pet favorite.
Unfazed, he says: “As to whether I’m of this or that clique, my attitude remains unchanged. Like how it is always reported that I’m Zhan Jie’s lead horse, and that I’m in Zhan’s clique. In truth, I am that. First, she is the one who asked me to join TVB series. My relationship with her is akin to that of a master and disciple; a teacher and student. All these years, she continually guides me, sometimes even berating me sternly. “How sternly?” “Around 6 to 7 years old, I fell off a bunk bed and caused a crack between my two front teeth, thus became a chipped tooth zai. Not until I was 21 years old did I finally have that fixed. But it made my way of speaking unnatural. I recalled when acting in my earlier series, she would scold me: “What’s the matter with your mouth?” At the time, I tried to explain: “I had had this childhood accident…” But Zhan Jie’s viewpoint was that, no need to listen to the ‘whys’ or to give the explanations, only that you change. This mindset not only influences my job but also influences my life. So my greatest gratitude should go to Zhan Jie. “
When he informed Zhan Jie of his decision not to renew his contract, Zhan Jie meticulously analyzed the situation for him: “Even if you don’t want to sign the full management contract, you should at least sign “a per-series contract ya.” And now Ma Zai has changed his mind, and has renewed his contract with TVB for three more years. Naturally, all’s well that ends well.
“I’m satisfied with the pay raise. But will not disclose its percentage increment. If I honestly mind this small percentage raise then I truly made a fuss just over money. ”
A double blessings event. The renewal contract has a happy ending; and his love relationship has hopes of fruition. “According to past fortune telling, I will marry late in life. But recently, two fortune tellers, at different occasion, told me that next year or the year after next, I might get married. This is my first time in my life hearing this happy news.” The fortune tellers predicted that it could with an old flame that he got back together, or that it could with a passionate love at first sight.
“Before, marriage had never entered my mind, but lately I have been seriously thinking about it. Maybe because many of my friends have recently gotten married.
Bringing up Vivian had Steven immediately open up his protection net. “Let’s not talk about her, ok?” After much words of persuasion and effort, he finally deigned to loosen his tongue a little.
We dated for 6 years. Our relationship came to a bottleneck. There were some problems that we didn’t know how to reconcile. I was too busy. Once a series starts, it’s like I’ve totally disappeared. Didn’t have too much time to spend with her. She had already endured much over a long period.
The outsiders like to describe this red wine businesswoman as a superwoman. Anyway, habitual practice becomes natural. After all, it had been 6 years, still had irreconcilable conflicts?
No matter how one can get used to a situation, she is still a woman who needs security. Maybe she is a superwoman in her work but in her heart she still likes to be taken care of. We had discussed this problem for a long time. In the end, decided it was best to halt the relationship. It was a mutual, tacit understanding born of our years of togetherness. No one dumped anybody,” says he.
As to the fortune-tellers’ prediction of ex-flame, could the female lead be Vivian?
He can only say: "I dare not be too absolutely sure. Vivian can also have her own way of life. I want her to be happy and be blessed. That’s enough.”

Steven Ma Has Not Signed TVB Yet
Credits: hyn5 @ http://hyn5-hyn5.blogspot.com/
Steven Ma, Fala Chen, Kenny Wong, and Timmy Hung were spotted filming their first outdoor scene for "Transferred Connection of Temptation" in Tsim Tung. The cast and crew had a little blessing ceremony to wish the filming process to go smoothly. During the break, Steven was comparing heights with Fala. Fala was wearing high heels, so although he stuck out his chest and sucked in his stomach, Fala was almost taller than him.
The reporters asked Steven if he is discussing contract renewal terms with TVB, he said, "The company has already handed me the new contract, but we are still in the process of discussion".
Although Steven did not officially sign the renewal contract, he has already started to film a new series. He says, "The contract is only a form. The company treats me very well, and I respect TVB very much. I am respectful and grateful to all the department leaders for discussing contract renewal terms with me. I am happy working with TVB".

Management Fry Big Wok, Steven Ma caught in the middle.
(Management in Dispute; Steven Ma caught in the middle)
It has long ben widely rumored that the two top TVB executives, Virginia Lok and Catherine Tsang, are at odds with each other underneath their cordial appearance. Lately their discord is out in the open for all to see, even to the point of being factious; explicitly taking a stance of it’s you or me to the bitter end. As to the cause of this contention, allegedly Ms. Lok had vocally criticized that Ms. Tsang’s prized general, Steven Ma’s image ‘can’t enter homes’ (interpretation: Steven has no audience appeal or draw) hence, had repeatedly obstructed his contract renewal with TVB. This point of contention caused the two top female executives to publicly open fire at each other, stirring the big wok during a meeting. Stephen Chan, as the outsider, was ultimately forced to resolve their dispute.
Sacrificing a Prized General.
In recent years, there has been a shortage of siu sang and fan da in TVB. Furthermore, many of its artistes upon termination of their contracts, would jump ship onto greener pastures elsewhere, thereby greatly reducing the already increasingly meager human resources in the artistes management sector, TVB’s most profitable department. As to the group of artistes who possess rating power and whose contract renewals are pending or upcoming such as: Bowie Lam, Roger Kwok, Steven Ma, Maggie Cheung, Sheren Tang, Wong Hei and Ada Choi; it can be said that TVB will definitely want to retain them. But after a lapse of half year, only Bowie Lam and Roger Kwok have renewed their contracts. This situation had greatly alarmed board member, Mona Fong. As the Director of Artiste Resources, Ms. Lok was responsible for stock replenishment, consequently, her right-hand woman, Manager of Artistes Development, Ms. Chan (陳佩華) had to be sacrificed for the flap when she took the blame by resigning last month.
To prevent further outflow of talents, allegedly earlier on, a meeting was held with various TVB departments to discuss the contract renewal crisis. In the meeting, the Director of Series Production, Ms. Catherine Tsang, laid out the contract predicament of her favorite general, Steven Ma, whose contract would expire in early July. However, the discussion degenerated into an acrimonious verbal war between the two top executives.
An Insider’s Account
“Ms. Lok claimed that Steven Ma’s image ‘can’t enter the homes’, subsequently, both parties couldn’t come to an agreement on his contract terms. And then someone quipped: “Is it only your home that he can’t enter?” At the time, the tension was already explosive; Zhan Jie then pointed out that Steven’s series have yet to be broadcast including Stars of Love, A Watchdog’s Life and Pu Songling. If he leaves, will these 3 series still be aired? Furthermore, Steven has just accepted a new series, ‘Temptations’. Zhan Jie felt that not renewing the contract will not insure the company of its interest.”
Stephen Chan’s Involvement
Steven first entered the entertainment industry as a singer, however, his singing career was less than ideal, then. It was not until he gained Catherine Tsang’s appreciation and participated in TVB series such as Files of Justice, Duke of Mt. Deer, Healing Hands, and Perish in the name of love that his popularity soared. In 2005, through Ms. Tsang, Steven signed the management contract with TVB. Thereafter, he performed in many high rating series including Land of Wealth and Safeguards. In the 2006 TVB anniversary ceremony, he received the award for 'The Most Favorite Male Character', thereby successfully becoming TVB front line actor. For this, Ms. Tsang’s efforts cannot be underestimated.
The dispute between the higher executives has yet to be resolved, so whether Steven, whose contract has already expired, will stay or not is still up in the air. TVB General Manager, Stephen Chan, was forced to resolve this dispute. He took it upon himself to personally negotiate the contract renewal with Steven. Earlier on, Steven went to TVB city to discuss his contract renewal. He said: “Came to discuss the contract. My thanks to Zhan Jie and Mr. Chan for their high regards of me. The negotiation was amiable. But as to the terms in the contract, it is not convenient to disclose.”
Stephen Chan said: “I’ve discussed the contract with Ma Zai. Ma Zai is not a new artiste. He has no problems whatsoever in 'entering audiences' homes'. We have already resolved the terms. At the moment, only waiting for him to return the signed contract to the company.” He said there was no discord over this matter as was reported. Stephen said that Ma Zai’s series have always brought in steady and good ratings. And that he approves of Steven.
Each With Her Own Mountain Peak.
In TVB, Ms. Lok and Ms. Tsang lead two separate factions; their relationship resembles that of fire and water. Because of their high positions and great power, all tvb siu sang and fan dan, whenever they are on stage to receive their awards, will sure to thank both Ms. Lok and Zhan Jie simultaneously. Their status is on par with each other, therefore, neither one of them can be offended.

TVB: Rumor is not credible
Yesterday, 曾醒明, TVB assistant director of public relations, accepted an interview with this reporter. He expressed that the rumor of the discord between Catherine Tsang and Virginia Lok is not credible. “They are all senior executives, and will not quarrel (chao dai wok) in a meeting, as reported by the press. One of them is responsible for the artistes (Lok), while the other is responsible for the series production (Tsang); so as to do good by their respective department, they may have different opinions, if so, they will seek a compromise; definitely no discord.” As to the question of Steven Ma’s contract renewal, he expressed that it’s the domain of the artistes department. At the moment, there is no definite news yet.
In an earlier interview, Stephen Chan also denied the discord between the executives. But he explicitly clarified that he believes “the problem with Steven Ma’s image unable to enter homes does not exist at all.” He said that Steven has performed in many series and their average ratings are quite good; from the company's standpoint, "Really hope he will renew his contract."
Steven Ma: I Have the Contract in my Hand.
Yesterday, this reporter called up Steven Ma. He said he did not know of the executives’ quarrel over him. However, he acknowledged that recently Catherine Tsang and Stephen Chan did discuss the contract renewal with him. “I hope that besides acting in series, there are other avenues for me to pursue and to experience, such as singing. As such, since the end of last year, the company and I have been discussing the terms and conditions of my contract renewal. Around June this year, Mr. Chan (Stephen Chan) talked to me and offered, what I consider, contract terms that are very respectful of my wishes. We have had a cordial talk.” He expressed that he has not made a final decision as to whether he will renew his contract or not, but that he has received the contract from TVB. Steven also stressed that: “Regardless of the outcome, I’m truly grateful to Zhan Jie and Mr. Stephen Chan for their guidance and concern.”
Investigation
Ms. Lok’s Numerous Setbacks
To better grasp the inside story, this reporter interviewed an insider from TVB, a Ms. Y. She divulged that Virginia Lok, whom people addressed as Ms. Lok, has indeed been “more troubled”, recently. Besides her discord with Zhan Jie, the main problem is that ever since she took charge of artistes management, successes have been rare, add that to the economic crisis background, she has come under fire by the higher management. Allegedly her ‘crimes” include: 1) The latest artistes who are “hot” are mostly those who have not signed a management contract with TVB. 2) The prized generals highly promoted by Ms. Lok have not realized the expected tangible benefits to TVB, especially her most favorite, Kevin Cheng, who took home the TVB king prize under much controversies. Despite that, he still does not have audience affinity, and that outside jobs such as stage performances and commercial endorsements are relatively low. Conversely, ‘Chai Gou’, Wayne Lai (not a tvb managed artiste) has been swarmed with commercial activities within the last 2 months, as to have been said earning millions.
Ms. Y also divulged that the fuse of Catherine Tsang and Virginia Lok’s open fire, Steven ma, has always been Ms. Tsang’s prized general. He has been a TVB managed artiste since 2005. However, despite Steven’s continual series productions, and his Safeguards garnering a high rating of 42 points, his side incomes from outside jobs were few and in between. Allegedly, the reason is because Ms. Lok, the person in control of artistes management, disfavors him. And now because she is putting up roadblocks to his contract renewal, Steven, feeling disheartened, has had at one time decided to leave the nest altogether. “But Zhan Jie not only tried hard to persuade him to stay but also managed to persuade TVB Business General Manager, Stephen Chan, to personally discuss the contract terms and conditions with Ma Zai. Reportedly, Stephen has proffered one very favorable term. Steven’s heart is wavering now.” Ms. Y expressed that in this “Steven Ma’s contract renewal” round, Ms. Lok loses once again. Furthermore, Stephen Chan’s interference gives off the vibes that the “wind direction is changing” within tvb internal politics.
Chan faction vs Lok faction
There have long been rumors of factions within TVB, one of them being that both Ms. Tsang and Ms. Lok have their own clique of loyal followers among the artistes. Also, there is this middle-of-the-road group of artistes who will not offend either party.
Catherine Tsang clique
Steven ma, Bobby Au-Yeung, Moses Chan, Ada Choi, Shirley Yeung, Maggie Cheung, Sheren Teng and Tavia Yeung etc.
Virginia Lok clique
Kevin Cheng, Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, Raymond Lam, Myolie Wu, Linda Chung.

Catherine Tsang clique
Steven ma, Bobby Au-Yeung, Moses Chan, Ada Choi, Shirley Yeung, Maggie Cheung, Sheren Teng and Tavia Yeung etc.
Virginia Lok clique
Kevin Cheng, Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, Raymond Lam, Myolie Wu, Linda Chung.

Kent Cheng Ma Zai because of ‘fire’ became bosom friends
鄭則士馬仔因「火」成莫逆@大公报 2009-7-9

In a one-on-one relationship, to get along with each other there need to be a bit of fate involved. Kent Cheng and Steven Ma, both are indomitable personalities, yet connect like father and son.
One late night, I happened upon Kent goh in the TVBcity cafeteria. Turns out that he would be flying out to Hengdian the next day to shoot a series. However, before setting out, he still made this one special trip to TVBcity to visit Steven Ma who was shooting Pu Songling then. Does Kent goh love Ma Zai this dearly?
“You know me; black is black, white is white, no middle ground. I cherish Ma Zai because he is willing to endure, also very hardworking, willing to analyze meticulously each and every one of his characters. In the entertainment field, what is most important to have is a fire inside. He has it. And this fire is burning pretty big. All this child lacks is a bit of luck, and when luck comes, the achievement will be extraordinary, for sure. I once said this to some tvb top brass: to have Ma Zai this kind of artiste is extremely rare. TVB must treasure him,” responded Kent goh, earnestly.
Kent goh expressed: The success or failure of a series is everybody’s responsibility; not just if I did my part then that’s it. What’s rare about Ma Zai is that he is willing to scrutinize every scene, to scrutinize every line; he is even concerned over the scene of the person playing opposite him; even down to the nitty-gritty details. What good about him is that he has a heart that cares about the whole, big picture.
Kent goh professed that so long a person is worth respecting, even if he is a junior, he will duly respect him; and Ma Zai is one such person.
Kent goh is a talented all-around artiste in the entertainment world. His influence has spurred on Ma Zai’s drive. Whenever they have free time, they will meet up to discuss acting and directing of shows. Ma Zai has already regarded Kent goh performing arts endeavors as his life-long endeavor to aspire to. An actor cum director, Kent goh during this one year of their acquaintance, has imparted quite a bit of his acting knowledge and techniques to Ma Zai so as to ‘open’ him up.
Ma Zai and Kent goh shared a mutual affinity. Although they have not known each other for long, they have already become bosom friends. Ma Zai frankly acknowledges that he is very lucky to have met Kent goh, this teacher.
“Kent goh taught me the most important thing in acting is to understand the concept of “allocation”. When to reel in? When to let go? When to yield? When to let others make their moves; although clearly mine yet not permitted release ya! When is the right time to fight forcefully; don’t fight for scenes. Only upon grasping this can one be qualified to be the main lead.”
But then, other artistes may have their own points of view and ways of acting. During the process of communicating, aren’t you concern that you may be misunderstood ma? Kent goh felt that in a materialistic society, the majority of people are concerned only of their own good; people who are concerned about others are in the minority.
"The people who give opinions only wish to do the work better. I don’t see it as a wrong approach. Ma Zai and I discuss and analyze movies and series nonstop. So very enjoyable. It’s merely an exchange.”
A relation that transcends age as well as transcends status. Kent goh and Ma are the best example that true friendship can and does exist in the entertainment world.

Steven Ma @ Mak Ling Ling Interview

M = Mak Ling Ling
S = Steven Ma
Miss Catherine Tsang the Most
M: In the past, you were not under TVB management and not a son of TVB, but you still filmed a lot of series. According to what has be heard is that Catherine Tsang supports you. Is she very nice to you? (Does she favour you?)
S: I've signed TVB management for 4 years now! Everyone supports me. Mr. Chan (Stephen Chan) also supports me! Well, Catherine told me to film my first series. At that time, I've released three albums, and the third one was not selling. I've thought about retiring, but if it wasn't for Catherine in telling me to film series, there is a possibility that I'm not even in this business anymore.
M: Out of all the TVB executives, are you in best terms with Catherine?
S: Definitely! If some day that I don't work for TVB anymore, the one I would miss the most is Catherine. She is the one who have taught me and made me what I am today. After so many years of filming series, she yelled at me for so many years. Every time she will point out my flaws. She'll say, "What is with your expression? What are your lips doing?" Actually, to me, this is a good thing. I remember the only praise I got from her was in "A Journey Called Life". It was the scene where Fala Chen died. She phoned me and said, "Wow, real tears. You did well!" It is very difficult to receive her "You did well." It is almost every time that I see her that she'll give me pointers. My biggest problem is my lips because I was a "chipped-tooth" kid when I was young. I've gotten used to speaking with my lips sticking out. When I got that tooth replaced later, I still needed time to change that habit.
M = Do have supper with Catherine on a regular basis? Are you afraid that others might call you "shoe shiner"?
S = Occasionally I do, but I'm not afraid of what others call me. She is my teacher! (What about Stephen Chan?) On the other hand, I don't have suppers with Stephen, but rather we eat at TVB suppers. (What about Virginia Lok?) I've had supper with Miss Lok. There are times where we'll meet and talk about contract terms. Most importantly is that I film with heart, so I don't have to depend on these.
M: The feeling you give others is that you're very polite, very well-mannered, and a goodie guy. And the feeling is also a bit out-dated. You are always in the news for injuring yourself, and you don't have any rumours. The feeling you give others is very boring. What are you going to do?
S: You are correct. Many reporters tell me, "You are very boring!" But my close friends know how I am. My biggest interests are playing badminton, playing ping pong, taking pictures, surfing the web, reading books, writing, and drinking red wine.
M: Which is boring! Were you like this when you were young?
S: Before entering the business, I used to sell Chinese teaching books and industrial chemicals. To be exact, I've only had two other jobs.
M: Your lifestyle is rather boring; do you have any interesting childhood stories?
S: I don't find it boring. Because work wise, I still need to meet many people. From form 3, I started to sell ice cream at Tsim Sha Tsui. I remember Sheila Chan and Michelle Reis once bought ice cream from me. Wow! Sheila voice was very loud. She told me to add this and add that. I even said to them, "I recognize you guys. You two are Miss HKs!" At the time, I thought the two of them were very pretty. Michelle was very polite and Sheila's voice was very loud.
Loving Ada Choi
M: How many friends do you have in the industry?
S: I have many! Tavia Yeung (the people I've interviewed before are very good friends with Tavia Yeung!) Is she that popular? Maybe I should remove her. Ha ha! There's also Joyce Koi. We are very good friends. There is also Linda Chung, Kwok Fung, and Lam King Kong!
M: When you're filming, are you very serious and don't play with others?
S: No, I can play very crazily! But when I say "crazy" you may think it is very boring. Ha ha! I joke around with people. I'm a rather slow interactive type of person. I would only interact with the ones I feel that can be associate. If we are not associate, I will not force it. If were not happy, we won't see each other next time, and if were happy, we will naturally see each other again!
M: Are you a person that differentiates love and hate?
S: Yes. I don't want to deliberately say something to please others. Life it too short for these things. If we can be friends, then I'll make friends with them. Many people make the mistake by thinking that I'm very polite and I'm easily picked-on by others. But they are actually very wrong. It is my principles that make me have a good temperament.
M: Have you ever squeal with others?
S: I will not squeal, but I will argue. Luckily, I do not swear, but when I'm scary when I get mad. Others will become silent. I speak loudly, so it is scary when I yell at others.
M: That is why there were reports saying you are troublesome and you at odds with Sonija Kwok.
S: That was a long time ago, so I don't remember law. She will be my new partner in my other series. We just went to Malaysia recently for promotional events. We were very happy.
M: Do you find yourself to be troublesome?
S: I don't find it. My principles will not be changed under any circumstances. My principles are being punctual, know your script, and don't play when filming. If these principles can be vacillated, then their/I'm not qualified to be an actor. I've yelled at people for doing these, and they will of course not like me. I don't need the entire world to like me, and for me to give up on my principles for the entire world is vain.
M: Have you ever fell in love with your partner?
S: When filming, yes. During the time when filming "Where the Legend Begins", Ada Choi absolutely made me feel the startled by a beauty feeling. During the filming process, I believed that I fell in love with that person. And personally, I admire her very much.
M: Did you ever take action and pursued her?
S: No, and then I filmed a different series quickly after that. My personality is most compatible with someone who is not from this industry. Although it may be difficult to control sometimes, but standing from my perspective, I think different sector groups would be better. I don't want my work life brought into my personal life. That is why I don't talk about the entertainment business with my family.
Exposed that he is not dating anymore
M: How many times have you dated?
S: (Dead air for 10 seconds as he counts) Four times the most. Three times. There is one that doesn't really count because the time was too short.
M: Any from the industry?
S: No, they are all from outside of the industry.
M: There were rumours about you being gay with your previous manager, Frankie Fan Chi Wing. Was that true?
S: Obviously not! I don't want to explain that much. I have dated my previous girlfriend for six years and all of my friends know it. And reporters even took pictures of us going on a vacation together.
M: Is it because you cover up your dating so well that people have this misunderstanding?
S: To be honest, I've never mind of my love life being exposed to the public, but there are a lot of people that don't know.
M: Are you dating now?
S: Just broke up in the beginning of the year.
M: Is it the one that Eunice Lam Yin Nei mentioned in her column? (red wine business woman girlfriend Vivian Hui Wei Ling for six years)
S: Yes, 我俾佢激死, I told her this in our conversations, and she wrote it out.
M: Didn't you say she (Vivian) was "okay" and you were thinking about getting married?
S: She's "okay" at this moment, I still think she is "okay".
M: If she's "okay", then how come you guys broke up?
S: You can't really explain these things. (Will you reunite?) We are still friends and she is a good girl.
M: What do you do on dates?
S: We stay at home and talk, drink red wine, and we sometimes go out and have dinner.
M: Nothing surprising?
S: I don't like surprises. I can give her happiness and warmth, but it's not romantic. Like Tavia says all the time, "I will not pick you for a boyfriend, but I will pick you for a husband!"
M: What type of girls do you like?
S: Actually, I don't look at the outer appearance. Most importantly is compatibility and as long as we can communicate. I like silence. I can't stand ones being too loud. I like girls who are more mature. I think my future half will definitely be older than myself.

Steven Ma Praises Tavia Yeung

In Steven's eyes, Tavia is a very good partner in every sense. "The old Tavia didn't have fire in her innermost feelings, but during the filming of "Sweetness in the Salt", she did some reorganization. Her acting is now different. She is very detailed in filming every scene, and she is in ready position when the cameras start filming. There is an episode where it talks about me catching a virus, so I had to stay in an abandoned temple. She was acting with me through a door way. We couldn't stop crying. That type of "parting forever" feeling was done in one take. After filming that scene, we couldn't help but hug each other. The filming crew were clapping their hands. I am very happy to have met such a great actress. I hope this series will become one of her representative works in her acting career."

Wrap-up dinner for the filming of "The Legend Of Pu Songling"
Translated by: jse @ http://asianfanatics.net
TVB Drama, "The Legend Of Pu Songling" had finished filming recently. The main male character, Steven Ma decided to act as a 'boss' to hold a barbecue event with other casts. However, the two main female characters, Linda Chung and Fala Chen were not attending the event due to the fact that both of them were in other countries performing their duties. Only Katy Kung, Charmaine Li, Benjamin Yuen and others were attending the event.
Steven Ma's right hand was bandaged. He explained that his right hand was injured when he tried to climb the tree during filming. In the early year of 2009, a feng shui master, Mak Ling Ling warned Steven that his hands or legs will be injured. And it is. Due to his injured right hand, he could not play his favourite badminton games. Mentioned about the absence of the casts, Steven explained that Linda had gone to Canada whereas Fala had gone to Macau. In addition, Steven will go to Canada after a few days. And this was the last gathering for this drama's casts. He said,"I was the "boss" now. But, Elliot Yue sponsored 3000 dollars to use for contests whereas Bak Yan brought a red wine to all of us"
For Charmaine Li, she had received a healthy food advertisement job in mainland. She had accepted the job to become a two-year ambassador. She said,"I was happy to have the job under such poor economic condition."

Linda Chung most enjoys working with Steven Ma
Friday June 26, 2009 Hong Kong Source: On.cc Matchbox @ http://www.illusive-serenity.co.cc Steven Ma and Linda Chung were shooting new TVB ancient series "The Legend of Pu Songling" earlier. The scene consists of them climbing up a tree and meeting each other for the first time. They also play a bickering couple in the series. Whether it's on screen or off screen Steven praised Linda for being very hardworking and that he was very lucky to work with her. Linda stated that she most enjoys working with Steven Ma. Even rumored boyfriend Raymond Lam cannot be compared. Actors are envious of him and complain Steven disclosed that in recent years he often worked with Tavia Yeung, Linda Chung and Fala Chen. Many male actors have said that they are envious of him. He said "Many male actors come up to me to complain. They ask me why the company always pair me up with such young Fa Dan's? Actually I feel extremely lucky. All 3 of them have great qualities. They are very hardworking and put in a lot of effort. It is worth appreciation. But what I find most funny is that whenever I work with Tavia, we start off as lovers in the series but never have a good result at the end. However when I work with Linda we always play a bickering couple". Linda praises Steven being Hardworking and Positive As to Steven Ma saying he feels very lucky to work with Linda, she laughed and said "Of course! He always gets to work with 3 of TVB's most beautiful and youngest Fa Dan's. I also enjoy working with Steven. Out of the TVB male actors he is one of the most hardworking. He is positive and professional". (Do you enjoy working with Steven or Raymond Lam?) "I enjoy working with Steven more because he can teach me a lot of things". | |

Tavia Yeung happily got wet when attacked by two males
PLEASE CREDIT ME AND MY SITE IF REPOSTED. THANK YOU.

Tavia Yeung attended TVB series promotional event yesterday and was terribly surrounded by Raymond Wong and Steven Ma with water gun and became “Lok Tong Gai” [drenched with water]. However, Tavia did not complain about it and even more happy as and when they shot her with water.
Tavia Yeung, Steven Ma, Raymond Wong, Pierre Ngo, Meini Cheung and others attended promotional event for TVB series, Sweetness In The Salt and played water gun war game. During the event, Tavia who is playful became the target of their attack and became the target of their water gun. Raymond Wong even pull open Tavia’s raincoat and shot water to her directly on her face. No wonder Tavia was wet from head till toes. She then expressed that even her ear holes were full of water.
Ear holes Full Of Water
“Lok Tong Gai” Tavia who became the victim did not get angry and even happily expressed, “I’m very happy because we did not play until so crazily before in promotional activities.” [But you have a lot of enemies?] “Yes, I also don’t know why. Raymond Wong was my teammate but he never helped me. Their target to shoot water and attack was me. Maybe they knew I was easy going to play with. My efforts were useless to think that I always take care of them. Raymond Wong’s shooting was the most accurate and now my ear holes are full of water. Although it was not until tinnitus stage, however I will ask him to pay when I see doctor later.”

Afterwards Tavia smiled saying she’s always nice towards the other artistes, she doesn’t understand why she became the target. She laughs, “Raymond Wong took off my cap and shot water into my ear, if there was anything wrong with my ear, I’m going to ask him for money to see the doctors.”
