Benny Chan makes apology in newspapers

The Hong Kong actor says sorry for his improper behaviour towards actress Rose Chan

Last month, Hong Kong actor Benny Chan found himself in hot soup when he was photographed forcibly kissing 19-year-old actress Rose Chan.

Later, he held a press conference, crying and apologising to Rose, but his actions did not seemed to appease Rose's teacher Master Sin, who claimed that he would get to the bottom of the matter.

Chinese federal law states that all criminal charges must be filed within 30 days. Master Sin had up to yesterday to file the report.

On Dec 15, Benny made an apology in all major newspapers in Hong Kong and China.

He clarified that Rose is not an opportunistic person and complimented her for being "innocent", "kind" and "hardworking". The actor also urged everyone to stop making personal attacks on the actress and her family.

Benny also emphasised that he had learnt the severe consequences of getting drunk and hoped that Rose and her family would accept his apology. He added that he will make a donation to the End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation, so as to serve as a reminder not to repeat the same mistake.

According to an insider, both parties had reached a mutual agreement. Rose had decided not to file charges against Benny, and Master Sin was to have made an announcement at 2.30pm yesterday to put an end to the case.

It was reported today that Master Sin had accepted Benny's apology on Rose's behalf and was willing to give the actor another chance.

When Joe Ma, who was also involved in the scandal, was interviewed through phone, the actor expressed, "It's good that nothing happened. I hope the new year will be a fresh start for everybody and I hope to succeed in all areas."
