Andy surrounded by tourists at Hengdian World Studio

On the 24 July, Andy Lau was shooting the final scene for his film, Detective Dee at Hengdian World Studio’s Emperor Qin’s Palace. The weather was 40 degrees, he had been shooting a scene where he battle with Tony Leung Kar Fai for 7 hours, but he did not made any complaints but expressed that he’s most afraid of acting with a pasted moustache.

During rest time, Andy was surrounded by hundreds of tourists, the crew members could only formed a human wall to protect Andy.

Andy started work around 10:00 AM, he was shooting a scene where he fought with Tony Leung on the horse in order to save Empress Wu Zhetian. From what the reporters had witness, Andy was wearing all black, hanging on the horse as he fought with Tony’s body double. It seems to be an action scene of high difficulties but Andy said: “Very normal, all the fighting scenes in this film are difficult.”

Andy and Tony were classmates during the TVB artiste training classes, to be able to collaborate again after their last collaboration in Island of Greed 12 years ago, as it was the same good vs evil, Andy described it as good as the good old days. Andy exclaimed that any chance of collaboration need to be cherish. With himself getting older, he could not shoot any more action films in a few years time as his body would not be able to take it, thus he take good care of himself during the shooting of Detective Dee.

He said: “Surely one would get hurt when shooting an action film, but the crew members are very professional, thus I have full confidence and trust them.” With regards to earlier reports that he scratched his chin during shooting and lost a lot of blood, Andy said that he does not wish the news being spread around as he don’t like such matters become news. Andy also raised his had to show off the burnt wounds done by the makeup artist.

Andy expressed that among all the actors, he had the most chance to chat with Wu Zhetian after each shooting as he hope that it would help in the shooting. With such tough shooting, Andy could not help but crack jokes on Carina Lau as he quipped that he envy Carina because she looked pretty when she’s happy in the film, when she’s not happy she could vent her anger out, of course he does not have such luxury.

Tough fighting and got injured, all these does not stop the “role model” Andy but when talked about acting with a pasted moustache, he began to complain: “It’s not tough when you used a lot of stamina, I really don’t like acting with a pasted mostache, it’s a discomfort hard to describe.” Andy recalling shooting a normal scene with Wu Zhetian with his pasted moustache, the temperature that day was 43 degrees, he was sweating as though it was raining.

When talked about his collaboration with Tsui Hark, Andy expressed: “It’s been a long time I shoot an wuxia film, it made me had the feeling of Hong Kong movie industry at its peak. I cherish this collaboration, I hope I have the chance to collaborate with him again.”

During rest time, Andy immediately head to the stable rest room to take a rest, the more than hundred awaiting tourist could not hold on anyone as they shouted out Andy’s name, the crew member could only formed a human wall to protect the heavenly king.
