Famous Chinese television and movie stars have flown to the earthquake-stricken Sichuan province, bringing with them relief materials including food, tents and medical staff.
Kung Fu star Jackie Chan landed in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province some 100 kilometers from the earthquake epicenter on the morning of May 16, sources say.
The star brought 120,000 bottles of water and food worth one million yuan and he personally donated an additional 50,000 yuan to a local hospital while visiting injured earthquake victims in Deyang, one of the most seriously hit counties in Sichuan.
"Relief work and reconstructing our homeland is by no means easy, but we will always be here to help," the star said.
Jackie Chan's partner and friend, Jet Li arrived in Chengdu on May 17, leading a volunteer medical team from his One Foundation charity fund.
"I give my special thanks to those who donated through our online fund. From one yuan to thousands, every penny is a message of love from ordinary people," Jet Li said during a short interview after landing in Chengdu.
In addition to volunteers, the star also brought tents and medical equipment to the earthquake stricken areas.
The established television hostess Yang Lan together with other female stars including Deng Jie and Jiang Qinqin arrived in Sichuan on May 17 to join the relief effort.
The female stars, who are mothers themselves, were determined to rescue the bereaved children from the nightmare that could follow them the rest of their lives if proper help is not offered.
"The children have lost their homes and their parents, we can not deprive them of their right to be loved," said Yang Lan, who has personally donated 300,000 yuan to a foundation aimed at helping child victims of earthquakes.
