Jackie Chan to Chop Down Olympic Protestors
Hong Kong kung-fu star Jackie Chan has issued a warning to disruptive Olympic protestors - if they interfere with his leg of the torch relay, he will not hesitate to strike back. The 'Rush Hour' actor will be carrying the torch when it nears Beijing, the host city for the upcoming 2008 Olympics.
The torch relay has drawn reams of protesters, bringing attention to China's human rights record and the clampdown in Tibet - with recent incidents seeing the torch extinguished. However, Chan won't be having a bar of it. He assures that he will be going "Jackie Chan style" on anyone who tries to disrupt his shining moment.
'Demonstrators better not get anywhere near me. They are doing it for no reason. They just want to show off on the TV,' he said. 'They know, "if I can get the torch, I can go on the TV for the world news".'
The actor was excited that his homeland will be hosting the Olympics, and said that the games will greatly benefit the country.
'It will provide another way for us to tell the world about Chinese culture,' added Chan.
'We are not right about everything. Things are getting better in China but we can change and are changing. We want to learn from the rest of the world as well as teach others about our ways and our culture.'
