Alan Tam Earns Hongbao at Shanghai Concert

Veteran Hong Kong singer Alan Tam presented his Chinese New Year's greetings to Shanghai fans with a nostalgic show on Monday night.

The 57-year-old pop singer, whose voice reigned over cassette players in 1980s, attracted many middle-aged fans to the show. They belted out the lyrics along with Tam as he revisited his old hits, one by one.

Since the show was held during the Chinese New Year holiday, many fans took the opportunity to wish the star a Happy New Year. They flocked onto the stage to give Tam hongbao, or red envelopes, monetary gifts usually given out during the Chinese New Year.

The unexpected gains fascinated Tam, who called his fans "gods of wealth."
